That 3-5-2 he had you playing in first half was downright bizarre; needless over-tinkering which could've - probably should've - cost you the game. Instantly improved after you switched to a flat back 4. Still think you have too much firepower in your side to not be amongst the promotion places and am sure you'll be right in the mix by the end of the season. Kodjia and Ayew should score a hatful in this league.

The systems talk is going to get annoying. We only drew today because of crap finishing. There's no more to it than that. Who were the crap finishers, and who put them into the system. Cause the system will need to be questioned. Every week if we lose, we should ignore the system, and just blame everything on poor finishing. Gayle up top by himself. It's never going to work. But if Gayle and Diame had both scored, you would surely have to concede that the system was a success? Gayle's chance came from the high press, which was a big feature of our play in the first half, and Diame's from ghosting into the box from deep - were these not parts of the 'system'? It's wrong IMO to paint this result as some sort of systemic failure when the margins are so fine; we'd have won this at a canter had we scored a second and we created more than enough opportunities to do so.

Worth mentioning that we've had quite a difficult start in relative terms. Huddersfield, Brighton, Reading, Villa...Wolves and Bristol City are also currently top 10 and in reasonable form. After the Norwich game, we'll have played all but 1 of the current top 6. To put this result into perspective, we drew with West Brom home and away and lost to Forest and Blackpool - our two nearest rivals and the eventual playoff winner - in 09/10. We've kept Villa, who will almost certain be in the mix towards the end of the season, at arm's length for the time being and outclassed them on their own turf for 70 mins in the process. Long term, I doubt this result will matter much. Promotion will hinge on our form against the bottom half to mid-top half of the table, not so much the likes of Norwich and Villa. I think we'll win plenty of games on the road this season but I am concerned about our ability to break defensive sides down at SJP. Being good at set-pieces is certainly no bad thing but I would like to see us be a bit more fluid in open play at home.
