This. Butt was generally awful but had a good season for us. Smith's probably the worst footballer I've ever seen who's spent years at NUFC. And, if you want to extend Butty's lead a bit, he scored a few canny goals. A pearler against Everton at home (3-2) and a couple of decent strikes at White Hart Lane anarl. Butt even wins in the non-competitive stakes; Smiffy's header against Sampdoria (from a Geremi corner ) is overwritten by Nicky's pair of headers against Villareal when he was getting booed with most of his touches.

I would say he's better than a League 1 player IMO. Probably needs a loan to a top-end Championship team for the first half of this season.

Smith was worse purely for the reason that Tooj outlined a few posts back. They were both garbage but Butt never hid or shirked, Smith often did and created that ludicrous 'warrior' persona that had him diving into tackles like a loon, normally as a result of a poor pass or tackle from him. Plus, Butt had a pretty good 12-month spell for us during 2006/07. He was probably the highlight of the Roeder era, along with Martins.

Doesn't sound like a question of a bid 'being accepted', more that we've met his £5m release clause.

Have to agree with this but if Spurs interest is legitimate then even if the club want him there probably isn't much they can do at this stage. I think he signed for QPR knowing full well it was win-win: stay up and he gets a nice fat bonus and probably a transfer anyway, be relegated and it's not his fault as they were already fucked and he can get a transfer even easier. Both of these whilst being paid through the nose. I reckon he'll have signed that three-and-a-half (or was it four-and-a-half?) year deal with QPR knowing full well he was there for 6 months in the shop window. Perhaps now he'd rather have assurances about playing every week? The gulf in wages between us and Spurs won't be anything as mental as QPR deciding to double our offer out of desperation or whatever. Bit soon to label him a mercenary, or a money grabber, or whatever just yet IMO. I bet Ba was thinking the same thing when he moved to West Ham, it was a similar sort of scenario. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Remy won't be their 'marquee' signing though, he'd probably be our biggest summer buy if we got him in. Get him signed. He's proven that he can score in this league (in a piss poor team at that, much like Ba did) and he's about as good as we're going to be able to get imo, regardless of the money thing in January.

Fucking hell, he made this absolutely awfully timed tackle on their lad who was pretty much in on goal after about 15 minutes and you could see the ref basically saying "if this was a proper match you'd be off", he went on to play shit and left for half time in the 'hands on back of head and gutted' pose. I think Tavernier replaced him after an hour and looked infinitely better.

Perch out, Matty Taylor in wouldn't be that bad, purely because you'd hope Good can cover as 5th CB, Tavernier as 3rd RB and Bigi as 5th CM/CM, and the places we really need cover are on the flanks, where Taylor would play most of the time. I still would rather we didn't bin off Perch though.
