  1. I think Gosling needs to play an entire season to show anywhere near what he can do. There are glimpses there of a decent footballer, but he doesnt play enough games for us to get it back. Needs to go out on loan to the championship for a full season imo. If he stays fit and plays 30 odd games, he has a better chance of coming good.

Carrying on this way, he'll never amount to much, and that injury will have effectively ended his career before it's even started.

  2. The £20m thing went out of the window years ago, Ashley said so in one of those statements.

Hmm, the original statement of the 20 million annual investment was done in 2008 after we went down: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7615655.stm

Pardew than mentioned in february 2011 that Mike Ashley long term wasn't willing to continue investing millions of his own money in the club: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/3434247/Mike-Ashley-has-delivered-a-staggering-statement-of-Toon-intent.html

Huge shame, and you'd hope that our success on the pitch and the acceptance by our supporters that the club is on the right track and Ashley deserves a lot of credit for this would lead to him regaining his original interest and enthusiasm. May be wishful thinking, but it wouldn’t be outside of the realms of possibility that this could lead him to reconsider his stance on investing in the club. I don’t think FFP would be an obstacle, as he could simply pay the investment out of Sports Direct as a fee for the stadium renaming and SD signage all over SJP. Either way, I don’t think our transfer strategy dictates we set a budget beforehand; it’s much more opportunistic than that, so I’m reasonably confident the money will be there when there are good deals to be done.

Ashley, being the astute businessman that he is, realized that there are opportunities in football, just like in any other business. He recruited people who in his view are top brass, such as Llambias, Charnley and Carr to help him exploit these opportunities. He also invested in the academy and in the club's training facilities. He realized that good players can always be found on the cheap, and it was important to have the right people and tools at the club to help them perform once they signed on the dotted line. Absolutely the only business model that will work for this club imo, as long as he is its owner.

  3. Yeah, hard to see Krul being anything other than a compete emotional wreck against Chelsea if he has to play tonight as well.

Nobody is saying that at all. The alternative that some people thing the team will suffer badly without him tonight is even more moronic mind

I don't know, he's an absolutely top keeper.

If I believed we had a competent backup then by all means rest Krul. I don't think we do though, and given that it's nowhere near as difficult for a keeper to play two games in 48 hours as it is for an outfield player then I'd start him tbh.

So you prefer that incompetent backup to have zero match sharpness if something happened to Krul before Chelsea? Really cant understand this attitude by people, GK is the least of our worries tonight and Pardew has picked Harper(apparently) yet fans know better

I don't believe any amount of match sharpness is going to make Harper any better, if Krul gets injured we're in real trouble regardless of how match fit our keepers are.

I'm confident we'll get the result regardless, but with it being such a big game for us I'd have played a stronger team than the one it looks like we might be sending out there.

IMO we'll be close to full strength in the return leg, where it's more important to keep a clean sheet. And so we should be.

  4. Why do you think we cant afford to change keeper yet you havent commented one word on the outfield changes which will affect the game far more?  ???

Naah, too many options already discussed here.

And i agree with some of them.

I just think that if there's one position that can be pushed to play in 2 days, it's a gk.

Its not about resting him though, most can see the obvious reason.

    What obvious reason then?

I thought that the importance of having days off between matches is mostly for a fitness issue.

Regarding the tactic etc, i don't think it takes a lot of time for a gk.

Harper needs gametime in case Krul couldnt make a game. Sorry maybe too obvious to give a backup much needed time in a real game.

Yup. Plus, if it's any area where we need experience tonight, it's at the back. Harper has plenty of it, and imo should captain the side. 3 out of 4 of our defenders will have a bit of experience as well. Not so much a concern in midfield (lack of experience), as this isn't the PL. No disrespect to Atrmoitos intended.

  5. I'd do it right away since he's getting old, replace him with m'Biwa and Alderweireld.

    Worst post I've ever read.

no it isn't and it does make a bit of sense.

Our most important player, the back bone of the defence that kept 15 clean sheets, our captain and one of last seasons two best central defenders in the best league in the world, playing the best football of his career and seemingly loves playing for the club. 30 is not old for a CB.

Sell him to another Premiership team and replace him with a young player that has never set foot in the Premiership?

    And it makes sense?

To be far to the king of curries, he did say "a bit"

  6. Imo Krul shouldn't play tonight. Neither should Jonas.

Don't mind giving Cisse 60 minutes to add to his fitness. Shola is a big big miss tonight, no doubt about that. Hopefully Cisse will do enough in 60/70 mins to then come off and give Campbell his day in the sun.

Amalfitano, Gosling, Marveaux and Bigi should all play. Obertan should still only be "impact sub".

At the back, it should be Tav, Williamson, Perch and Raylor.

And Stelios is your Greek uncle.

Edit: Forgot Cabaye was there. We may need his experience in there. Should be a hot atmosphere.

  7. We are doing an excellent job this last two years.

The same people just want us to enact the 'well proven' principal of having to spend a lot of money(relatively) in football to progress. Let's not do that again.

Stick to our structure, work within our framework and keep progressing. That's the plan and it's working

    Yes, YES, YESSSSSSSSS *jizzes

  8. Have no gripes with the window so far to be honest. I'll reserve judgement for when it has "slammed shut", as you do. We don't really know what's happening behind the scenes. I get the feeling there is a sense of apprehension coming from the manager, who maybe expected big bids to come in for our star players, but seen nothing forthcoming so far. We might be stuck between a rock and a hard place as the final week of the window approaches. We know that if a large enough bid comes in for one of the big boys (Cisse is the one I'm worried most about), we'll have to sell, especially if the player agrees to the move. We may not have enough time to replace a significant outgoing with a significant incoming.

I think we have done well again with the players we have signed on the other hand. Anita is a quality player who has the potential to have a hand in moving us up to the next level if his partnership with Tiote and Cabaye sees fruition. Amalfitano looks a handy squad player for now, able to play in several attacking positions. Bigi and Good seem very level headed youngsters, with good attitudes towards the professional game and real talent, which is all you could ask for from players at that age.

The priority for me at this point is keeping the current squad together. If the window shut right now I would be relieved if i'm honest, as we'll have done well to keep our star players.

  9.

 f*** him and the wankstain club that employs him.

Any club or business for that matter, in the position we are in re: Carroll, would do exactly the same as we have done. Our derisory offers are not insulting. Dalglish's stupidity was the real insult, and they would never admit it.
