That midfield is not really poor by any stretch of the imagination in terms of quality. Chelsea without the 5 mentioned are of course significantly weaker - nowhere near title winners. But that side out there today for example were still easily good enough to beat Sunderland. Their mentality from the first whistle was appalling; it stunk of just expecting to win without putting much effort in.

I suppose Sunderland 'got lucky' as in Chelsea are unlikely to turn up and play so abysmally for a long, long time, but they played perfectly today. This result doesn't make me think Sunderland are a good team but they were more than worthy of that scoreline.
