At first look it seemed to hit his shoulder, but I reckon the ref got it right first time, it seemed to hit hime on the side which made it more arm than shoulder.

I thought the same, but apparently the rule is that if a handball (accidental or not) directly leads to a goal it's offside. Correct decision based on the rule, but bullshit rule.
