It would be nice if they could at least pretend they weren’t favouring Liverpool .

On paper, that West Ham team is really not very good.

I've got a lot of time for Broadway. When he was a kid and a left-winger I just couldn't see him making it at all - just didn't seem to be a natural footballer. Good athlete, but poor-decision-making, run-of-the-mill touch, no feel for the game. Going to Sunderland was the making of him (said no-one ever), although the foundations were laid when he first moved to LB. Something just seemed to click, and although he's an interesting character it was difficult to tell whether the catalyst came from inside or outside. It was like he suddenly realized how to play football. As for now - I don't know. I've watched fewer Spurs games then ever this last couple of years, so I'm not the best witness. I know that his heart's not really in it, but that was always the case to an extent, so I'm not sure whether that's enough on its own to dismiss him. He's certainly been less effective when I've seen him, but I wonder if a change of scenery will make a difference. He's never going to be an elegant LB, but could be good enough to completely shut down a flank if he's on his game. It's worth a punt to see if he still has a few years in him.

At least I got my triple captain right.

I'm sorry, but when it comes to West Ham I can't resist: https://twitter.com/bbqbobs/status/1221777425857765376?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.spurscommunity.co.uk%2Findex.php%3Fthreads%2Flets-all-laugh-at-west-ham.65977%2Fpage-918

Indeed. It's why I look forward to the international tournaments more than anything in the calendar now, there remains a purity to them that, even taking into account the gross way FIFA go about staging them, once they begin those events are ultimately about the sporting glory most of all. This, broadly. I really enjoy the NFL though because there is still a level of parity, although that's underpinned by a significant amount of exploitation of labour. It's also helped because I'm part of an NFL community here and it was always important to me that sporting teams are rooted in their community.

You lot will be moaning again in summer when you only spend £150m £65m net spend, with no replacements for Herrera and Lukaku. Aw man, at least show a little bit of fight. He's a very important signing in all seriousness. We've desperately needed someone who can shoot from midfield. All defences need to do is sit back against us and hope that Messi Lingard doesn't bang one in from 30 yards. Fernandes should hopefully bring defences forward with his long range ability which will free a bit of space in behind for our forwards to hopefully do something... anything. Please. Hang on, you need somebody who can shoot from midfield because all defences need to do right now is...sit back and let you shoot from midfield? Also I'm a bit worried that I asked you to show a little bit of fight and then immediately Woodward's house gets stormed

Why, was he being mind-controlled? Seems like a weird thing to say. If you mean you don't blame him then sure.

It seems insane to me that the last three scorers you have in the fourth round are Chopra, Parker, and Carroll first time around .
-
Well that was fun.
-
All right, just for the heck of it and just do this off the top of your head: 1. Who scored the last goal for Newcastle United in the Fourth Round Proper of the FA Cup? 2. Who scored the last goal for Newcastle United in a win in the Fourth Round? 3. Who was the other scorer in that match?
-
I dunno man, when I went back through your games there were three or four that I had forgotten about just in that run. The 3-0 to Oxford, for one.
-
That's a bit insane. I actually went back and worked it out - there are 73 different teams who have scored in the 4th round since then. If Tranmere score later today that makes 74. Including such luminaries as Crawley, Aldershot, Newport, Barnet, Stevenage (naturally), Sutton etc etc. Some of those on more than one occasion too. It's an almost unbelievable stat. And of course, the last time you scored was in a 2-4 loss to West Brom. The year before that you lost in the third round to Hull...without scoring a goal in two matches. The year before that you lost 3-0 to Arsenal in the 4th. The year before that you lost in the third round. Since January 2006, when you beat Cheltenham Town, you have scored precisely two 4th Round FA Cup goals...both in that defeat at West Brom. That's completely insane. If I'm right, the next highest team in the league right now who have not scored in the 4th round for the same amount of time is Ipswich in League One. Actually, Ipswich scored in 2010 too, so that might make 74 as both your last goal and theirs came at 90+1 mins. And now I look at it, Scunthorpe scored the next day, so that might be 75. God I'm bored.

Froggy[/member] Genuine question - is it because you have no depth, or because you do have depth, but it's shite? Kinda the same thing I guess. I mean, you had Bailly, Dalot and Shaw on the bench who you paid a fair whack for, but they're all defenders. You seemed pretty happy that the kids were going to get a big chance this season. Genuine question because I've not really been paying attention. I know you offloaded a couple of the older guys.
-
Yeah, took Alli and Son out this week . I mean, my team has been shite, but it would help if I didn’t keep wasting points on the bench.
-
Don't think I'll ever tire of stuff like this happening to them (see West Ham, Arsenal too).
-
He was very young when he was elevated to the first team. Always felt like he could be really, really good, but always had some serious attitude. Feelings were mixed when we sold him, but his career since has stalled in the way it seemed like it might all along. Good player when engaged, mind.
-
Aww, you spoiled it. I thought it was sweet that people didn't see the darker side .
-
Oh you sweet, innocent children.
-
Finally got the captain right (Aguero). Still keep leaving loads of points on the bench though. This week it was Pope & Fleck.

 Amazing.

He's done well in pre-season before. Never looked like a truly great prospect, but seemed to make the step up OK. I have to stress, I'm as disengaged from Spurs and football in general as I ever have been. Basically avoided the Football forum all season. It's a conscious effort to disengage - been working on it for a few years really. I sort of want Liverpool to win every single match left this season. Used to be a stalwart on Spurscommunity but I've only been on there a handful of times this season - I'm probably not the most knowledgeable of witnesses any more . Astonished reading that. Not dismissive at all, just really surprised. Aye there's problems at Spurs but had no idea they were bad enough to detach oneself from in the way a NUFC fan could... That's not the point though. It's not about Spurs, it's about what football has become, and about me getting older and moving away from the UK etc. It was always about community for me, and underlying that at least a pretence of parity and competition. I could break it down to a greater degree, but it just became more and more of a charade. The NFL system has an awful lot to recommend it - at least from a "local fan" and parity point of view - which brings the Premier league, UEFA etc into stark relief. Then you factor in the amount of genuine pain and depression that's caused by being a football fan for so long and it's just not worth it - for me at least. I was trying to bow out last year, and had hoped that we would have taken the CL as an apt goodbye, but since there's no God that was never going to happen. The whole thing just feels broken, and being so far away now makes the break far easier, emotionally and practically.

That Calvert-Lewin "goal" was a bit annoying . My team was looking pretty clever when that went in.
