So much guff is out there in transfer rumours that you almost never say if anyone’s actually been interested in somebody. As soon as the Grealish transfer was mooted you’ll have had agents/journos/bullshitters linking you with whoever. I’ve lost interest - now I just try to avoid it all and wait for the deadline to pass to see what’s actually happened.

I just threw a few players in a couple of weeks back and figured I’d go back in and re-assess, pick the team etc. Totally forgot about the Friday game, so I had Bruno and Kane on the bench and Obafemi as captain. Was fully expecting to score about 20 pts, but 72 feels like a miracle. My team was so shit that Bruno managed to come on as the last sub, and my vice-captain was (checks notes) the Chelsea keeper. Gonna have to pull my finger out going forward. Is Friday night a thing all season now?

Just finished work and I’m exhausted so it might just be me but…I really don’t understand that first sentence
-
…and IIRC Bruno is on my bench.

I’ve not seen any of this, but presumably the lap of honour was more because it was their first game and first win in the Premier League? I suspect they’d have done it if it was anyone, but a big London club is just a bonus.

In a sign of things to come, totally forgot there was a game tonight and apparently I have Obafemi as captain

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that would actually be really fucking hard.

Might bookmark this tweet to look at every time I think of going back to football.

I urge you to try it. You just need to have something to fill the void. American Football does it for me.

Also, there are tons of things you can do in London and not in any other largish city. You could go to the BFI, the British Museum, the Globe, or the Tower of London for starters.

It amazes me that Jimmy Greaves is outliving all these guys. Probably my Dad’s favourite player of all time, and despite being an alcoholic for decades he’s still going and has now been married to the same woman for 63 years. Fair play.
-
Why’s it rank hypocrisy? Genuine question - I don’t know if he’s anti-royal, or had spoken up against the honours system.

What an absolute fucking belter that Maguire pen was, mind. Would also like to have a quiet chat with the ref after that tackle on Grealish under his nose.
-
Was screaming at the telly when he did that one in Extra time on the edge.
-
Yeah, he was gassed towards the end too. Saka was dangerous but made some poor choices. Wish Foden had been available.
-
Rashford? Donnarumma went in completely the wrong direction. I actually thought Rashford had nailed it, he ended up giving himself most of the goal to aim at. Then he fucked it.

I really don’t know what to do with myself.

if I was Italian the first thing I’d do would be stand on his foot at a corner. Can see him totally losing his shit.

I’m at Cedar Point sweltering in the heat. Nervous as fuck.

Nice goal by US women’s team.
-
Then Villa? (I wonder to myself)

i agree with both of you tbh. There’s a tendency for people to see one or two glaring mistakes (or great bits of play) in a game and make their summing up based on that and not what happened in between. I think Walker’s been one of England’s better players throughout because his experience has shone through and his ability to cover for others (and himself) has been quietly effective. That said, distribution and creativity/decision-making going forward has never been his strong point. That’s why his position on the right of three fits him well. I think he and his coaches have recognized his limitations. His effectiveness as an attacking RB relies on his pace and athleticism. He will almost always play it safe when he has the ball, and since the movement ahead of him has often been uninspiring that’s why we’ve seen him playing it sideways and backwards or occasionally getting caught out. Trippier offers something very different - rather have him going forward, rather have Walker going backwards. Feels like deja vu for me tbh.

I would like to face them, please.

The purple person has their head in their hands in the run-up though

My wife thinks he may be the dumbest person she has ever met.
