  1. ...and there goes my Fabianski clean sheet FFS.
  2. Drove back from Disney last night with my gammy Achilles (17 hours or so) and then woke up five minutes too late to make my transfers. For fucking fuck's sake. Then I couldn't rant about it on here until now.
  3. The Grand Old Team match thread is absolutely brutal about both Williams and Keane: https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/burnley-v-everton-saturday-3rd-march-2018.102555/page-70
  4. You guys want Stoke-Soton to be a draw I presume?
  5. Burnley Man Utd (Postp) Southampton Chelsea Stoke Arsenal Man City Leicester Everton are they? Lost to Burnley and they suddenly have to beat Southampton. Draw (or lose) there and they have max 31 points with every team left to play apart from Stoke in the top 10 Be class if West Ham went down Yeah, I was gonna post that. Their main hope is that they have two games at the end against teams who will have nothing to play for. If they fail to beat Burnley they are in all kinds of trouble.
  6. Was looking at your team and subs and it must be one of the strongest squads you've had at Spurs for ages. That's without Alderweireld and llorente involved today too It really is. Players not involved today who have played this year - Foyth (excellent young CB), KWP (excellent young FB - either side), Winks, Aldeweireld/Llorente. Gazzaniga as our #3 keeper too. Add to that the fact that the only players over 30 are Vorm (34), Lloris (31) and Llorente (33) and our average squad age is the same as yours, with only Liverpool's being younger. Of today's starting line-up, only Lloris, Vertonghen, Dembele and Eriksen are over 25. That's amazing. Just the usual problem that we can't afford the sort of wages paid by five other clubs in our division, which means that it's very difficult to do what they do and simply spend a fortune on proven quantities. This season alone we've seen Arsenal (Lacazette 53M, PEA 56M, Mkhitaryan) Liverpool (Van Dijk 75M, Keita 48M, Salah 39M, Ox 35M), Chelsea (Morata 71M, Bakayoko 40M, Rudiger 31M, Drinkwater 30M, Zappacosta 25M), Man City (Laporte 57M, Walker 54M, Mendy 52M, Bernardo Silva 43M, Ederson 35M, Danilo 27M) and Man U (Lukaku 75M, Matic 40M, Lindelof 31M, Alexis Sanchez) spunk an absolute fortune on proven players playing regularly, whereas our big signings were a kid and a couple of players who were out of favour (Sanchez 42M, Moura 25M, Aurier 23M). I'd actually forgotten half of the other teams' transfers, there were so many. The ideal is to get to the point when we can pick up one or two of those players to enhance the squad. It's still nice to know that we can field two entire teams who are both very good. This is surely the best squad we have ever had, which is particularly encouraging since our strength is in being more than the sum of our parts.
  7. Absolutely horrendous week, even though I captained Salah. 34 points from him, Firmino and Kane, and virtually nothing from everyone else. Only got in PEA to put the mockers on him against us, and he’ll be gone this week - only question is if I pull the trigger on the wildcard.
  8. Happy they’re in the Europa just cos it reduces the chance of the Arse winning it.
  9. That Mexican one is absolutely mint.
  10. One nice thing about moving away from the UK was forgetting that Alan Green was a thing. God I used to hate him.
  11. Back in the early days he did SWOS commentary as well which worked well. He’s good for snippets - listen to Sven,Sven,Sven but can be a bit much over the 90 I will always love him for his commentary of the Arsenal semi in 1991 for Capital Gold - the one with the Gazza free kick. My Dad still has it on tape. He was a terrific radio commentator: well-informed and genuinely enthusiastic. In common with others, I have a lot of time for Henry Winter.
  12. Glad we’re playing this at lunchtime and not as the Monday night match. Can be a tough away game (like all London derbies). Predictably, of the 18 different paragraphs on the BBC ticker, only three are about the Spurs match (the first one, after all) and one of those is announcing the team. The other 15 are about Man U/Chelsea. I like it actually, nice to fly under the radar a bit.
  13. This. I was well chuffed when we drew Real Madrid and Dortmund in the CL, then Juve.
  14. Lineker is spot on. I’ve always liked Danny Baker as a football pundit, though he’s a bit irritating as anything else. Danny Kelly because Spurs, although I never listen to Talksport so I don’t know if he’s still any good. James Richardson naturally - Gazzetta was about as good as it gets.
  15. Such a confusing, inconsistent string of moves. Was he actually good at one point and has faded or was he always operating at a level above his capabilities at the likes of Spurs, Soton & Liverpool? Just realised he has 1 England cap too and actually scored on it too https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jun/29/steven-caulker-mental-illness-addictions-gambling-drinking-qpr I didn't know that. I can empathise with him on some of the issues there. The Dundee move actually becomes admirable in this light. Admiral in some ways, but doubt he'll see out a season. Dundee is an utter hole, and the people hate the English more than any other Scots I ever met having lived there for three years and with a Dundonian girl for eight Wow - what did you do to get them so riled up?
  16. The poster should simply have been "When are Ipswich ever gonna beat them?"
  17. Adu certainly. Denilson? I suppose you could say Ali Dia, looking at it from the other direction.
  18. Looking at Birmingham and Sunderland and a thought occurred to me - who would you least like to be a supporter of right now, out of all UK teams? I guess Sunderland is the obvious answer (no money, no future, your rivals are in a better place and you come from Sunderland). Must suck to be Brum too though, or, say, Leyton Orient (fucked over by everybody).
  19. Can't help but feel that refs are going to have a great deal of say in who wins this year.

six n two threes tbh, if either go on a run it f***s them, being bottom though is terrible to look at Yeah, don't know who I want to win tbh. I suppose worst case scenario is a draw.
  21. ` We've also had the huge disadvantage of not having proper home games all season in the PL - https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/andy-townsend-spurs-going-struggle-11019988. Swings and roundabouts I guess. It's mint that we've been able to give Newport and Rochdale a day at Wembley though.
  22. I always hated the Sol Campbell songs. There's been a lot of people posting on Spurscommunity about how embarrassing it was at Rochdale. The debate about both Sol songs and Yid songs has some parallels. I think most people who sing both are too young to have been around when they came about. I remember getting dogs' abuse in the 80s (was too young to remember the songs in the 70s) from Chelsea/West Ham/etc with all the gassing noises et al, and so I am comfortable with the tribal "Yids" songs. I also grew up in North London with school kids from every denomination you can think of so it mainly felt like it was intended - a way to identify and express solidarity with people who were getting bullied and abused. Has its time gone? Yeah, probably. The Sol stuff arose from the manner of his leaving, but I remember watching his debut and the subsequent games when a lot was put on his shoulders in a poor Spurs team and he dealt with it all. I developed so much respect for him at that time. The homophobic chants towards him (and anyone) were never acceptable but I could understand the resentment when he left for Arsenal. But that was seventeen fucking years ago. Some of the dildos chanting yesterday will not have been born. Meh, I suppose everyone has idiots. Nowt wrong with negative chants, but it's not as if there are not a million more relevant targets, like Wilshere, Pogba, or that dipstick Lingard.
  23. We did win 6-1 away and then 7-1 away in the last two games last year .
