  1. I agree, but Brentford aren't exactly innocent on that score.
  2. I'm still bitter about that corrupt penalty they got against us in the semi I'm afraid. The ref just straight-up cheated. I couldn't believe it.

I can't really speak to that any more, because I've been in the US so long. As an older football fan, it just all seems rather sad, albeit ludicrous. I think that many older fans recognize how powerful Newcastle Utd could be with even moderately competent ownership/management, and there's also some relief in "There but for the grace of God". I've always had lots of Newcastle fans as friends (my Best Woman is from Stakeford) and so I feel a bit more of a connection than most. I think those without such connections just find the whole thing hilarious, and a handy distraction from their own club's failings. Unless you support one of the money clubs, in which case, I don't care what you think .

This. As a fan of another club I've got to be extra respectful, but fuck me. When Bowyer had that punch-up with Dyer (?) I thought I'd seen it all, when Joe Kinnear got hired as DOF, I had to re-think, but this season has been completely insane. I almost want you to get relegated just because it would be the single most ludicrous season of all time. I hate to say that, but wow.
  5. My Dad's favourite footballer ever.
  6. This. He clearly decided "fuck this for a game of soldiers". The atmosphere around the club must be appalling.

    34. Fuck. Thoughts with all - sounds like it was all pretty sudden too.
  8. Dammit, don't make me like them.

    Sunderland

i feel like Sunderland have to beat Southampton for you guys to have a chance of going down. Any other result, and I think you're ok.
  10. This week's been pretty terrible. Come on Captain Hazard.
  11. You never watched West Germany?
  12. Yeah I know, I was just responding to the guy who thought you'd go down even if there were no shock results.
  13. I don't understand why people keep saying this - unless you're being superstitious or lazy. It seems pretty clear that even if you lose all your games you're probably going to stay up. I've been through the predictor and this simply isn't the case. I didn't even give the lesser teams any shock results and if we don't get a point we go down with Sunderland saved. If we get one point we stay up in a few scenarios and are down in others. 37 points pretty much guaranteed safety and 38 definitely did. 35 points though and there's definitely very few ways we stay up. So we definitely need something and the idea we'll stay up no matter what is incorrect. 4 points from five games is all it would take most teams to overtake us on goal difference, which is more than what they're getting. Where is our next point coming from? That is the real issue here. I wouldn't back Carver to get a point playing any of the local pub sides. If the bottom three teams don't get any shock results they will go down.

Crew score 4 - that's something you don't see every day.
  16. At first glance the table looks bad for you guys, but then you look at the bottom three and I can't see any of them catching you. Sunderland look awful.
  17. I feel like I've never cared so little about other European clubs. I don't know if that's age, moving to the U.S., disillusionment with football or all of the above.
  18. ...and in "Other Games Today" news, I'm fully expecting to get gubbed today.
  19. If defeat means watching footy in a pub, then I can live with that.

Part of the argument is that they're not going elsewhere - that they've actually stayed in the same "place" but the club they supported has moved away from them, and from what they think football should be. From one point of view, they're actually standing by their team more than if they all went to watch, say, Salford City. I admire them greatly for making the break while Man U were still good, although I'm not sure what I'd do in the same situation. Leyton Orient were always my second team (although a good few people seem to be quite happy to kill them off). I'm not sure how you can say you never get these clubs though. AFC Wimbledon?
