  1. So has he been doing well? I've never had any faith that he'll make the grade, but most reports on his time at Sunderland have been really positive. I'd absolutely love it if he develops into a solid left-back - he's relatively cheap, and completely homegrown.
  2. cycling to bournemouth the monday, hopping on my mates jetski to Le Havre and hitchiking down, same trip in reverse I believe there is a thread along these lines: http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,58693.0.html
  3. Same. In all seriousness, what action (if any) do people feel UEFA should take? I just posted an "impassioned plea" on one of our sites. I'm done. Ban the fuckers. "Not the club's responsibility, not on their turf". Fuck that. Was Heysel the responsibility of every single English club? I realize the problems involved in controlling the Ultras, but frankly, I don't care. If organized groups of idiots from both sides want to fight in a field, let them. If an organized group wants to plan and execute a terrorist attack on some innocent people, then throw the fucking book at the club. My wife is planning some research into fan behaviour (particularly female fans), and has Italian heritage, so if I was still in the UK it's possible we'd have been in that bar. Of course, I'm not stupid enough to think that a game in Rome against Lazio would be without serious, organized trouble, but that's kinda the point. If I know this, then something's wrong and other countries' clubs shouldn't be expected to deal with it. Ban them.
  4. Oh God oh God. Magic. Liverpool host Chelsea near the end of the season too. How lovely if Benitez applies the final nail to Rodgers' coffin! Not going to happen, but just the thought is hilarious.
  5. Not at all. It would be hilarious
  6. I'd like Benitez just for the RAWK reaction, but it all smells of Pep.
  7. Top half sides that teams played against in that run: Chelsea: 5 West Brom: 2 Everton: 2 Arsenal: 5 Spurs: 4 Liverpool: 2 "Big Four" sides played against: Chelsea: 2 West Brom: 2 Everton: 0 Arsenal: 2 Spurs: 4 Liverpool: 1 Just saying.
  8. Honestly, I felt the "old" truck hit me as soon I read this post.

    Football pet hates

Nothing personal, but these posts always happen when Stoke/Bolton/Brum etc are put on TV. I mean, by all means criticize the teams for being shite, but you should be praising the schedulers. (1) Thank Christ games get shared around (reasonably fairly) here, so everyone gets a piece of the pie. I would hate it if it was Arsenal/Man U/Chelsea/Man City every fucking week, plus they got all the money. (2) Given (1), you know that you've got to have a certain amount of Pulis and Fat Sam games. Now nobody wants to watch them, but at least if you pit them against each other you minimize the amount of their games. There's less of those games where they get to drag more interesting teams down to their level, and there's always a chance of a fight. And you get to watch a team you hate lose, or a draw, where everybody else wins.
  10. Yeah. We've been a bit shit, but i've taken a bit of solace from the fact we're done with Man U, Man C and Arsenal away, as well as Chelsea at home. I can't remember- which of those have you played so far?
  11. It's mad that grown adults put so much into a game and get so little out of it most of the time. I’m probably one of the few that have seen the club win a trophy in my lifetime and that is pathetic when you look at some of the clubs who have won trophies. I genuinely feel sorry for the people who have never had the chance to experience what it’s like and we’re unlikely to see that change for a while. I’ve brought my kids up to support Newcastle and I sometimes feel that by doing so I’ve ensured that they’re in for a life which consists of misery every week or two. I feel similar about Spurs tbh, although maybe generally more positive . My big advantage now is that I live in the US, so I immediately have some emotional distance I can hide behind (minimal media coverage, most people round here don't give a fuck, not surrounded by Arsenal supporters). My girls will play football, but can support the Columbus Crew - far less emotionally draining. Of course, I live near Cleveland and so now have to support their accursed teams, but that's another story. At the worst, I have several other sports I can use to distract me from a loss.
  12. We are looking a bit like that team from 08-09 at the moment tbh. Shambolic at the back and clueless up front, despite the potential. We're s****, and we can't attack a team at all, but we WILL be better with our first 11 out, or close to it. You can't count on that ever happening though, particularly if you go through to the next round of the Europa. I genuinely cannot remember ever seeing us (Spurs) with our "first XI" on the pitch. YOu need to be able to pick up results with at least three out at any given time.
  13. Nothing to loose, might as well go for it or loose by shitloads. Death or glory. Fair play to him tbh. I mean, their defense is shitty, and you never know if we can get Howard to even things up.
  14. Yeah. I hate the aftermath of these games - no doubt everyone will wax lyrical about Arsenal's scintillating play, but if a player gets sent off that early then it ceases to be a proper match. It was the same earlier this season when Adebayor came on after somebody was sent off, lots of our fans were excited about the impact he had, but it was against ten men. Not that he wasn't good, but you can't make the usual value judgments.
  15. Ah well. I have a lot of work to do. Cunts.
  16. Read that as fail. Both equally valid.
  17. *Sigh* So every single one of Arsenal's "doubtfuls" are playing today, while we continue to generate brand new injuries. I wish we had Parker, Caulker, BAE, Dembele and/or Kaboul back for this. As has been said repeatedly on our boards, this is redolent of those 90s derbies when "plucky" (read shite) Spurs teams were routinely outclassed. Huddlestone will be completely bypassed today.
  18. This level of pessimism from you guys tends to precede a win.
  19. I took an ex and her friend to a Spurs match years ago (they'd never been to a match before) and it was the single thing they most loved about the game. Particularly the "You're shit, aaaaaaaaah" postscript.
  20. "a skin shed by a tarantula which Steven Taylor delighted in using to chase team-mates and staff around. He scared Medical Secretary Kate Dunn in the dining room, then ran after a petrified Andy Woodman before bursting in on Tim Krul as he received a massage. " just LOL'd "get thish shpider out of my fashe steven!" He's going to get his jaw broken again, isn't he?
  21. I claim dibs on that band name.
