  1. Just watching the full game for the first time, about 20 minutes in. So far - terrible keeping by De Gea, but great work by Perch to get in the right place; Ba has been absolutely terrific; Cisse completely peripheral; your midfield nice and compact. Simpson has done very well (one comedy pass aside). Ferguson picked a strange old team, they just don't look at all impressive...apart from down the right. Compare your team with Villa and you're streets ahead.
  2. Read the thread, naturally. Didn't realize how positive you guys were about him .
  3. we have every right to slag off anyone who supports their club purely because it's easier to support the clubs that win stuff than those that dont. (goes for 'second clubs' aswell). i'm always interested to find out why people support the clubs they do and i'll decide for myself if th reason is legitimate or not. I think many supporters (though certainly not all, and maybe not even most) have the same gut feelings I do. My gut instinct is to scorn most supporters of other teams that simply chose their team without a geographical/familial connection, but love all supporters of my team that did precisely the same. Hypocrisy is at the centre of it, because there is an inherent hypocrisy/dichotomy in club identity. Clubs derive some of their identity from their locale, but some from their owners/followers/TV audience etc etc. I like to think that Spurs are rooted in their community, and all clubs clearly are to some extent, but the funding and support has changed so much over the last 40 years (let alone since the Premier League started) that it is, at least in part, something of a delusion. Anyway, so far so fucking dull . There are two schools of thought if you're from/connected to the UK - you either think it's OK to support whoever you like, or you think there should be some family/geographical connection. I tend towards the latter. If you're from abroad then what oldtype says comes in. At that point, it's "the more the merrier". There's a reason why my major non-Spurs site is here. It's a great site, number one, I have some connections with the area (two) but also, fans here are closer to what I want fans to be. Mostly local, but a good number from abroad who didn't choose Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool or Chelsea. Or Man City, now. The only fans of those clubs I respect are ones I respect for other reasons, or locals.
  4. Very well put, Sir. Shit all over those mongs, indeed. Beat Everton too while you're at it, please.
  5. Not getting into the Europa will mean you don't have to invest in the squad...... Naah. I've been reassuring my wife that Villa won't go down, but I didn't realize how bad their injury list is. They're top of that league, and it's mainly first team players they're missing. With a team that young, one or two more dodgy results could really open the flood gates. I thought QPR would pull themselves out - and they still might - but there are enough sides really struggling down there that I really can't see you getting sucked in. Even if you lose the next four (including Brighton), I have you down to beat Reading and Villa. After your European games, you then have a pretty cushty run-in.

    Football pet hates

Managers abusing match officials at length (topical). I don't mind the odd outburst, but today was systematic bullying. I'd love a ref to be able to come out and say to the manager "I wouldn't talk to my dog the way you are talking to me" and throw the book at them. I hate bullying in every sphere, and that is all it is.
  7. Yeah - or whoever makes the final call on spending. Llambias?
  8. The other thing to consider is the contrast between Lambert's and Pulis' sides. Stoke let you have the ball outside the area but defend like beasts as you approach. O'Neill used to do something similar (though not as extreme) and rely on Agbonlahor/Young on the break. Lambert just can't bring himself to do that, though he may have to start doing so in the next couple of months. He was frustrating us today - more by luck than judgment - but when he brought Albrighton on and started to play more football in the second half...well you saw what happened. Chelsea certainly took full advantage.
  9. They did Liverpool - perfect away performance. Lambert just needs to keep them up this year. They have sooo many kids playing and getting good experience (for the most part) and he's learning which ones can step up. He just needs to stay up, then do some work in the summer. I rate him tbh, but he may end up cutting it fine this year.
  10. Well if it's us, don't come on here and take the p*ss will ya? Wouldn't dream of it. My wife is Villa, and we have an agreement not even to mention the game. Of course, I'd be re-reading the match thread from cover to cover.
  11. Fifteen. I'm fucking sick of this, in the last two-and-a-half games we've had 58 shots (41 on target) to the oppo's 9 (2), and countless corners, yet we're only 1-0 up. And that goal was offside. We're due to absolutely annihilate someone.
  12. Sick of these games. Can we not just score already?
  13. Easy tiger, it's just a crazy rumour. Nice to dream, though. Even if it happens, then Sigurdsson is still v. young, and perfectly placed to be his replacement. It would make more sense to ask "why bother with Dempsey". In either case, it's because we want to be in four competitions every year. I mean, what kind of crazy person goes into four competitions without adequate cover in every position? Just jealous like. It just goes to show where investment can actually take you. Obviously we've had other problems but it was inevitable we'd slip away when yous, Liverpool, Everton and basically everybody else actually spent money this summer. Chance wasted, depressing. Yeah. I wouldn't get too annoyed about any Spurs deal mentioned in the paper because, frankly, they just make most of the shit up. However, Liverpool spending money is annoying, because they wasted a shit-load on Dalglish. They had their new comedy sponsorship deal which meant they could just spend their way out of trouble again. We've actually got worse by losing our best two players, essentially. Everton must be the big irritation for you guys. I mean, they didn't spend much IIRC (within their means at least, which isn't much), but they spent where it was needed. Everyone knew where you needed to strengthen, but it just didn't happen - at least, not nearly enough. You bolstered the squad a bit, but didn't actually improve the first XI (which is the key need every year), and why in the absolute fuck did he not buy a CB?! I was going to suggest that he should take us as an example (we usually had two or three CBs injured last year) but he didn't even need to look that far. Didn't you struggle last year when Colo/Taylor got injured?

  15. I rate him a cunt, but that's my job.

    Hatem Ben Arfa

Played last night. I had completely forgotten he was there . What a fucking joke these clubs are.
  19. A vast publicity campaign...yet the money will be "back-dated" to 2012? They will be aiming to publicize Qatar to people earlier this year. Via time machine? Well it's pretty simple. UEFA draw the line here, or we all go home. FFP will have achieved the exact opposite of what people had hoped for. Who could have thought that it wouldn't make any difference? Oh, I know, but I am an eternal optimist.
  20. Heard that before somewhere Weirdly, I am well chuffed with the draw. I'm not expecting to go all the way, but we get two, perhaps four, cracking games. And nobody will expect us to win...yet we are capable of being pretty good, you know. Really looking forward to this.
