  1. They make shit up and/or report on other people's bullshit (and the odd snippet of truth). I mean, it's the transfer window, that's just what they do.

    Football pet hates

Yeah, the whole thing is horrible. Particularly hate the carte blanche the media gets to lie through their teeth.
  3. Re: Richard Wright - with Stuart Taylor gone, presumably it's the old cheap third keeper you'll never use who helps you qualify for homegrown quotas.
  4. Does the EL even bring in enough revenue to fund extra players? Unless it does why would waiting make any difference? We could get around 10M extra this side of winter through group stage and ticket receipts. I stand to be corrected, but that just sounds wildly wrong. We talked about this before. There just isn't that much money available in the Europa - Pardew himself has said as much. He may be more worried about the potential demands it makes on the squad.
  5. it's looking like we've been fucked about for both by their respective chairmen. In a perfect world we would get in Lloris and Moutinho, then another striker and competition for Lennon/Bale. In theory, that's exactly what Damiao and Willian are. I mean, I'm sure we can't stretch to all of them, but three of those four might be possible, particularly if Dawson goes. If that happens, then I reckon we're actually pretty shit-hot. All we're looking for then over the next couple of years is kids, plus the odd opportunistic improvement. It's quite clearly a pipe dream, though.
  6. Ah yeah, forgot about that. Tbh, I've long since stopped thinking about him as a Spurs player - like Jenas and Bentley.
  7. For me, the main attraction of Moutinho would be his nous and footballing intelligence. I mean, if we lose both Modric AND VDV then we just don't have any clever bastards.
  8. Not particularly, as far as I know. I think the basic problem all along has been Levy's asking price. It doesn't make much sense to me, because his amortization should be hardly anything. We god wonder if AVB might try to integrate him, but it actually seems further away than ever.
  9. It's just twitter though. I mean, it would be great and all but I just don't expect it to happen.
  10. Hang on, is that a German guy pandering to Jewish stereotypes? Anyhoo, we actually paid 8 mill or so for VDV so in theory it's a fantastic deal. Problem is, he's a cracking player, a real leader with intelligence both on and off the pitch. That's why I think it would be a mistake to sell, and why asking 14mill makes sense. I just don't understand the mentality that Levy should be "locked up" for asking that. Apart from the fact we can ask what we want, some players are worth more to certain teams than others, and some players' integral worth is more than the obvious. I'm sure that you would be asking far more for , say, Tiote, than if Man U had him right now.
  11. To RAWK! Not the most entertaining thread (repetitive), but I lolled at the title: http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=296992.0
  12. Quite, particularly up front. Unless he thinks (a) Best is a crock (b) Campbell is ready to be backup.
  13. To be fair, both myself and Neil have popped up saying your second team is now pretty good - the Atromitos side was decent. How good is a second team going to be, when your wagebill is a fraction of the big boys, and even comfortably less than us? The problems are clear and specific - centre-forward and centre-back cover and maybe an upgrade at RB. If you have 15-20M to spend (sound reasonable?) then you should be able to address all three, but certainly two.
  14. Fuck me. I do wish that people would just guess how much money you have available to spend and have it in a poll. Isn't that the crux? Last year you made a relatively small loss before Carroll (B.C.?). You'd expect to have that money to spend plus the new TV money, and other things (increased kit money??), less the Cisse fee/wages and this summer's transactions. I'd guess (completely off the top of my head) that you should be looking at spending about 15M, plus a few mill if a cracking deal comes up. In other words, a couple of players who'd improve the team. Anything short of that would be a "disappointment". Just talking about net transfer spend is misleading. Why not just talk about how much money is available, how much you stand to gain by getting CL (although I do think that's unlikely) and how much you stand to lose by dropping behind, say, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton (and staying behind Spurs)?
  15. Hope that's all true, hope AVB fails. Was speaking to a Portuguese lad the other day and he said that over when he was managing Porto he was incredibly arrogant. I think he really believes he's a great manager already It's goal.com. Apparently they simply made it up. Who'da thunk it? Does look like VDV might leave though, if Hamburg cough up enough dough (too many oughs there). On the one hand, I'd be gutted to lose our remaining player with a brain, on the other we might get a shit-ton of money for an older, injury-prone player. Naah, I'd be gutted. Jesus, I suppose we get our money's worth from Levy. Fucking mental. I mean, I know he knows what he's doing, but does AVB?
  16. M'vila is supposedly a rumor put about by his agent.
  17. What? What's she doing on there? Being hot, and wasting airtime. So pretty much...her thing. Quick google search brings up "Erin Andrews' boobs: too good to be true?"
  18. I have a very vague memory of Lennon coming up against Downing at LB once. Brummie, was that against you lot?
  19. He'd have to be an Adebayor-style wage dump. I'd actually be tempted to have him back tbh. Probably my favorite Spurs player to watch since Hoddle/Waddle.
  20. If only it happened more often, I might be tempted to tune in. As it is, it amazes me that you can listen without steam coming out of your ears. Literally just switched over and heard him going so I stayed. Predictably that ginger c*** cut him off, made some 'outrageous' statement about Rooney/Man Utd and they went to adverts. Put a CD on. Yeah, that sounds about right. Back in England, every once in a while I'd dip a toe in only to jump out just before I threw the radio out of the window.

  22. I think you're quite clearly one of the best-run clubs in the country now, particularly considering where you were three years ago. That doesn't mean you can't spend a little more now. We're seeing exactly the same arguments on Spurs boards, just on a bigger scale. Rather than "why can't we pay the extra mill or so and get things done" it's an extra three or four mill. You're trying to improve on Simpson and Shola, we're trying to replace Modric and Defoe. We're both working on similar margins though, so I think the answer is different. With the extra TV money this year, I think that you need to take the opportunity to pay a little more to pick up two extras. I suspect you don't have enough wiggle room for more. This step-up is not the tough one, the next is a killer, so if Ashley & Co. are unable to loosen the purse strings now then it doesn't bode well. The one thing I would say is that I think our second teams are closer than they have ever been before. That line-up against Atromitos looked pretty good to me. Obviously there's an issue up front, and an injury to Cisse would have been a total disaster. The key advantage you have now over the Luque time is that I would have far more faith in the scouts. It wasn't just Luque, it was silly contracts for people like Xisco, Smith, Owen etc etc. A misstep on one player right now would be less damaging. I mean look at us - we paid silly money for Bent and Bentley, and arguably Keane, and still have Jenas on a pretty big wage. We absorbed all that crap and still did OK because the rest of the squad was strong enough.
  23. Interesting. I guess that might mean the Australian kid has turned a few heads. Massimo Luongo? Is he like a deep lying play maker of some sorts. Pretty excited about him in Australia, mainly due to the lack of quality youngsters coming through. Noticed Ipswich got pumped on the weekend though and he was starting. No, I meant the young Australian keeper we had on trial (Ryan or something?). Not sure what's happening with him. Luongo looks good but like ML says he's a couple of years away. Was MOTM the game before Blackpool, but was taken off in that game after an hour or so, with the score 0-5. Long way to go, but think he's a goodun.
