Manchester United 1-0 Newcastle United (26/12/25) | post-match from pg. 54

We couldn't score in a month of Sundays though. That is a very depleted Man Utd team who settled for the 1-0 and got it. -
Transfer window is looking like an absolute disaster at this stage. Plenty of time for things to turn around admittedly.

He was piss yet was also by a mile the best of the starting front three. It shows a lot about how much the way he carries himself seems to influence response to him (arguably justifiably).
-
Was a waste of space again today unfortunately. Would probably attribute some blame to him for the goal although again not sure why his main use appears to be defensively

Hate to say it but the loss of Isak is the biggest issue and everything stems from that. We've lost the thing that broke games open and the player that raised everybody else's game simply by being there. -

We just struggle to control the ball and spam crosses in. It's like watching 11 Jacob Murphys -

The fact that Haaland probably is the best player in the PL and many would argue the world says a lot about the way football has gone in the last 10 years or so. The level is higher than ever, but many of the top players leave me completely cold, and he epitomises that. -

Thought he was MOTM by a mile even before the goal -
Probably one of the best crossers around but he is rubbish at football
-
He has had moments but he's as much to blame for the shit season as anybody tbh. He's painfully slow, weak in every challenge despite his size, doesn't hold the ball up - and the whole team is 10 yards deeper as a result of all of this.
-
He's got to do loads more for me. I don't blame him for the goal so much because we shouldn't be relying on him to be a third CB so often. But everything else hes falling way short of good enough right now.

From spending a lot of time in the Leeds/Bradford area as my lass is from there I've noticed just how common it is to see other big club shirts out and about and in pubs - something you don't get anywhere near as much in Newcastle. There's also a really limited non-league scene around that area which always surprises me. I'd attribute it to the sporting bandwidth that rugby and cricket absorb.

Awesome old school wreck of a ground, absolutely worth a visit. The concourse bar in the main stand had tellies with dodgy fire sticks showing the 3pm kick offs

Not quite as exciting as above but I'm at Glentoran Vs Cliftonville today

Again this only my opinion but a stadium outside of the city centre has more insurmountable issues than a redevelopment or castle leaves/LP job. You simply can't magic up the transport infrastructure to support a 60-70k stadium in a peripheral location in Tyneside. There is no viable site.

There's a lot to unpack about how badly he's doing at the moment but I think it's a combination of all the factors. 1. He's a player who while himself styles himself as an all round player who wants to get on the ball deep and wide he actually thrives best when he's playing central and benefitting from the ball played into him quickly and getting good crossing service from wide players, something he doesn't get at Liverpool with all their direct wide forwards cutting inside and slower build up. 2. He's always had fitness issues that need managing - and spending the summer off the way he did will have not helped him one bit. He will still not be 100% fit. 3. He is somewhat disliked by the wider footballing public due to the way he went on and there is undoubtedly huge pressure on him to perform both because of that and because of the huge fee. Liverpool fans would support him, but not hitting the ground running mean they themselves will get frustrated. All of this can build up and contribute cumulatively to an ever increasing case of the yips. Unfortunately I think eventually one way or another it will click for him, whether that requires a new manager or change of personnel. Obviously I hope not, but it would be too sweet for him to remain terrible forever. And unfortunately, I still don't think we're better off having lost him up to now, and that is reflected in our inconsistency and inability to turn leads into comfortable wins the way we used to. I'm not convinced Woltemade has his ruthless finishing ability and his lack of pace to frighten the opposition means our default is too often 10 yards deeper than it was. I am holding out hope that Wissa coming in will mean we've enhanced the team in the aggregate.

He's weak as piss for somebody his size and a bit slow. That's annoying. Makes the press more difficult to implement, and means we inevitably end up a few yards deeper than we should be. That's my main issue with him really. Obviously he has technical quality.
-
Still doesn't really do it for me 100% like. Not up top on his own anyway.

They do, or at least have had in recent years, a particularly strong pool of CBs compared to other positions. Part of the reason Huijsen chose to play for Spain ( even before he kicked on significantly last season). If Botman was a Dutch striker of equivalent quality he'd probably have 40+ caps at this point. That being said it remains a fair point. For me Botman is a talented player but his injury record just isn't good enough for me to ever have 100% confidence in him as a blue chip player the way other people do. Personally I'd sign a new left sided CB rather than stick with him.

Will Osula: Goal vs Man United nominated for PL Goal of the Season
ponsaelius replied to a topic in Football
Yeah sell. He's probably fourth choice CF with Wissa back as Howe will play Gordon there ahead of him, so he's basically just a wildcard wide player. He'd have gone in the summer IMO if the striker situation had got sorted earlier than deadline day. -
Desperate to see him play like. Think we'll be absolutely cooking with him and Woltemade
-
I think he'd be going if they didn't have the WC qualifier as well.
