For all the fair criticism of our transfer policy, one thing I am definitely in agreement with which I have said before is not using loans to fill key positions. It's a very small time way to put a team together. We used the loan system perfectly in the Championship season, when Hughton brought in several players as short term cover and/or to give us a bit of experience of the division (Harewood, van Aanholt, Fitz Hall). With all the money Bruce has had, to keep building a team around loans is absolutely fucking stupid. Unless it's a loan with a view to buy ala Ben Arfa, then I agree.

I like that they have faith in lads from the lower leagues. Their squad is journeyman-tastic, but it works for them.

I knew he'd do well. The man is clearly a goalscorer, he got into the positions time and time yesterday. I like Best but I think Ben Arfa off Ba could work very well in terms of complimenting each others play.

Interesting to read that they really rate Fletcher. I've always thought he looked a good player (for a Jock) and has like a 1 in 3 Prem record, yet he doesn't always start for them and can't get in the Scotland team. Edit: Looks like Fletcher doesn't see eye to eye with Levein, hence not playing for them.
