It's important to realize how things have changed when considering any Chinese owners. Chinese investment and ownership of European clubs is not strictly just private investors out for their own interests or capital gains, as has been the case in the past, and so it's not necessarily worth directly comparing to past cases and examples.
It's now a concerted government effort for soft power using the football industry as a vehicle, orchestrated from the very top of the Chinese government. The purchases of both the Milan clubs and a percentage share of Man City are the most notable examples of this.
It'll only become more clear what kind of investment this is when we actually find out who they are.
