Panic buy suggests poorly researched buys. These may be brought out of desperation and past failures, but I very much doubt they're poorly researched.

I saw him against Hartlepool about 4 years ago and he looked great. But that was League One level, it was a pretty big plunge for Villa to spend that money on him.
