2-2 Villa.

Shit day.
-
It's been obvious for about 2 months now that the title race is over.

Reading equalise.

Why would they target a holding midfielder though? They've never, ever played with a holding midfielder. Because for the most part they've had 2 of the best central midfielders of this generation at their disposal. There's still no chance of them signing a player who's job is to hold, or somebody who can only do that. You don't need to do so to be successful.

CB, LB, CM and a forward/winger. For me.

Just because City are strong doesn't mean the rest of the league is.

23 wins out of 30 games. They're on course for the highest PL tally ever since it was cut to 20 teams. More because of the weak nature of the league in general this season tbqh. They're almost Germanic in their efficiency, but they aint been impressive this season for long stretches. It baffles me why more teams don't play at a high intensity against them in the same way we did at home and Bilbao did to them in Europe.

Why would they target a holding midfielder though? They've never, ever played with a holding midfielder. Martinez would be a great signing for them (and anybody) because he's a fantastic passer, technically accomplished and strong physically. They wouldn't sign him because they specifically want a defensive midfielder, they'd sign him because he's a good footballer. I actually agree with you that the midfield has cost them in Europe this season, but I don't know why you keep mentioning that buzz word. Fergie has always played 2 central midfielders that can do a job both ways.

More to do with the general quality in midfield than having a designated defensive midfielder. They've got on just fine without a defensive midfielder for years. Nah, man. 3 Champions League finals from the previous 4 seasons is crap. THEY NEED TIOTE! I still think they need strengthening there considering there's been times this season they've gone with Park and Giggs as a central midfield pair. It's a blackhole considering the level they're competing at. To say they specifically need a holding midfielder is daft though.

We were an absolute shambles at the time and he had a good game against us. Hardly deserved applause. Especially considering how crap he's generally been for England.
-
Nowt wrong with that. Sometimes you just have to take your hat off and say fair play. It was the best individual performance from an opposing player I've seen at SJP since Scholes in the 2-6. I'd probably applaud Xavi or Zidane, not that tosser. One of the most cringeworthy moments supporting NUFC that was as far as I'm concerned.

Another thing yet to be mentioned is that his motivation to leave was also fueled by getting more international recognition. Hasn't even looked like getting a cap since going to Liverpool.

Said before that I'm tentitively excited about the summer window. Fingers crossed.

Aye keep the thread, more than worthy.

Might be being completely ignorant here as I know little about the illness, but could that have been a reason why he struggles to play more than 60 minutes at most anymore? Lots of Villa fans were convinced his legs had gone. Terrible news though, fingers crossed for him. Always come across as one of the league's genuine pros.
