It's because he'd be mad to slag off a superstar who's doing Capello the favour of playing for his daft little team in his spare time when he could be shagging grannies and smoking tabs. Players don't like playing for England anymore, it's all wrong. A lot of things that are wrong with the NT were shown up at the final whistle. England qualified tonight, you'd never have known. Montenegro didn't but even qualifying for the playoffs was obviously a source of immense pride to them, do most of the English players have this pride, I doubt it. Honestly, it might sound like I'm over-playing the media aspect but I think they were genuinely just relieved they weren't going to be vilified and stalked for the next few months. "That's that one out of the way, we'll not get ripped to shreds until next summer". The whole thing's completely unhealthy. I do wonder whether other countries have experienced such a drop in interest/ability to identify with their national team in recent years. Obviously Spain don't count.

This shit needs to be dropped ASAP. Absolutely, it's fucking ridiculous.

Less egos. Less club 'connections'. Actually build a team, rather than assembling the 'Premier League Elite'. It'll be a while before England win an International Competition, though I'm sure Grassroots Coaches will be blamed for whatever failing lies ahead... again. Grassroots is indeed blamed but my perception isn't that the coaches are getting the flak, but more the wider approach. I've never read anything blaming the coaches themselves but by the same token I've never read any criticism of Trevor Brooking who is supposed to be the guy leading grassroots football in this country, isn't he? The thing is that even if we're doing things at grassroots level now, even simple things like forcing kids to play 5 a side until they're 12 or whatever, the proof of the pudding doesn't come for 20 years or so. And I don't know whether they're even trying to change grassroots football to reflect other, more successful countries. Do you? Does anyone?

I've had similar thoughts but there simply will never be less hype imo. No matter what the squad is there will still be much of the media saying we could/should win it.

Disagree tbh mate. I think the cycle will continue, not least because of the lack of decent English managers. FWIW I think Redknapp might do an alright job with England, it's just a hunch. There's a psychological block there with some of them and he's a proven track record of making players feel good about themselves. Well, apart from players that he ends up not rating like David Bentley, but that wouldn't be an issue with England. Edit: BTW Sam Allardyce now has a column in the Evening Standard and was spinning the usual shite about how he should be England manager this evening.

Yeah, you're a WUM, laters.
-
You're a WUM or you're slow. It wasn't a strong group. We're surely allowed to draw conclusions on our tournament prospects based on the level of performance we've seen. They are premature conclusions... Let's just wait and see then. Arsenal should have just waited with Bruce Rioch, they were proper thick as fuck to cut that short based on what they saw on the pitch. And I'm not advocating sacking Capello before the tournament btw (there have been whispers of that iirc), I'm just saying we're pretty shite.

It is if that's the extend of your ambition, yeah.

Everyone agrees that England are a joke Rupert and many of us have lost a lot of interest. My job's a joke but I still turn up. Anyway, hypothetical question time. If Alex Ferguson decided to pack it in at Man Utd and wanted to fuck around being England manager for 2 years, would he make a success of it? Say for Euro 2014. Would he succeed? What is success? All current circumstances stay the same, although he could of course affect certain things.

Some of Alf Ramsey's wins were a bit more significant, or so I've heard.

I don't disagree with you about the club bit, but seriously, Ruud Gullit would struggle to get a team containing Hart, Cole, Terry, Rooney, Young, etc etc etc to play so abjectly badly at a World Cup. And he can't speak English! Pretty fucking important when you're managing ENGLAND! I think lots of managers could have overseen such a disastrous campaign. Different teams but Taylor couldn't get us to the tournament, nor could McClaren, Keegan couldn't get us past the group stage after a sticky qualifier versus Scotland. Our players will look for any excuse and the media will make matters worse. Every single time. With their pressure and their scandal stories and their arrogance. Things will need to fundamentally change if England were to ever win a tournament, I don't even think an inspirational manager would make much difference, although it would clearly help. And then you've got the valid concerns about the way football is taught to kids in this country. The whole thing's a mess.

You might want to familiarise yourself with 2002, 2004 and 2006 before coming out with that recycled garbage. I honestly think Eriksson did a really good job, it just unravelled at the end when the press were hounding his every move.

For the record Ronaldo, I'm disagreeing with Rupert rather than you here. He's been shit for England and is just after one last easy pay day imo, but to question his general credentials is madness. It's just the circumstances we're in, let's never get another big name foreign manager in his 60s ever again, cos they're clearly going to see the £5m+ a year and think "fuck it, why not?" when there's no need to actually prove themselves anymore. As you say Ronaldo, the unwillingness to learn proper English is embarrassing. For him and for us.

Capello's managerial record, what a dunce this man is: As a coach Milan Serie A (4): 1991–92, 1992–93, 1993–94, 1995–96 Supercoppa Italiana (3): 1992, 1993, 1994 UEFA Champions League (1): 1993–94 European Super Cup (1): 1994 Coppa Italia Primavera (1): 1984–85 Roma Serie A (1): 2000–01 Supercoppa Italiana (1): 2001 Juventus Serie A (2): 2004–05, 2005–06 (both revoked) Real Madrid La Liga (2): 1996–97, 2006–07 [edit]Individual Serie A Coach of the Year: 2005 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Coach Award: 2009 I just so happen to think he's made a pig's ear of the England job and is mainly here for the money but to question his ability is incredible.
-
FYP. He's won every honour under the sun you flid. Sorry mate but you're just not helping yourself.
-
Capello's leaving man, it's been confirmed by almost all parties.
-
Yeah, you can only say Rooney's petulance is why England will not win anything if there's a well-oiled winning machine around him, which clearly isn't the case. It's just a distraction and an annoyance. How he can't hold his temper after all this time man, it's pathetic. It was embarrassing enough in that Spain friendly years back.
-
What a fucking muppet.

Only paying this match 1% of my attention, what's Rooney been sent off for like?

I've changed my post to quote the full article but it's still clear as mud. Basically the email was supposed to go to Brian Marwood who he also used to work with at Nike and he was mocking the statement made by the mother that she was "riddled with cancer".

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14856828.stm Manchester City chief executive Garry Cook has resigned over claims he emailed defender Nedum Onuoha's cancer-suffering mother mocking her illness. Cook offered his resignation after an investigation by City found "there is foundation" to the allegations. He had denied sending the message, claiming his account was hacked. The club issued a statement confirming the board had accepted Cook's resignation and that chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak had apologised to Dr Onuoha. Defender Onuoha's mother, who acts as his agent, had previously sent a message to Marwood and Cook, explaining that while she was "ravaged with cancer" it would not prevent her negotiating on behalf of her son. Dr Onuoha then received an email, allegedly from Cook and addressed "Brian", which apparently ridiculed her use of language in describing her illness. The email is reported to have read: "Ravaged with it!!...I don't know how you sleep at night. You used to be such a nice man when I worked with you at Nike. G". Dr Onuoha told the Sun the email had left her "humiliated and devastated". The claims led City's board to launch an investigation and, following its findings, Cook offered his resignation and Khaldoon wrote to Dr Onuoha "to apologise for any distress caused". In the statement, Khaldoon said: "Garry has made a remarkable contribution to Manchester City Football Club over the past three years. His judgement in this matter should in no way lead to his accomplishments being overlooked. "On every level, the club is unrecognisable from the organisation which he inherited and our staff and supporter services, community outreach and commercial activity have seen unparalleled growth under his direction with yet more projects to be realised on the horizon. Garry has made a remarkable contribution to Manchester City Football Club over the past three years. His judgement in this matter should in no way lead to his accomplishments being overlooked "On behalf of Sheikh Mansour and the Board, I would like to thank him for his energy and tireless commitment to serving all those connected with the football club. He will always be welcome at Manchester City." Cook said: "I am privileged to have held my position at Manchester City Football Club and to have experienced the opportunities that it has presented. "The privilege is in part offset however by the significant personal focus which has at times, detracted from the magnificent achievements of those working at the football club. "It is that factor, together with my error of judgement in this matter that has prompted me to reach this decision, which I believe is in the best interests of the football club." City director John MacBeath will fill the role of temporary chief executive officer while a replacement is sought.

There's a lot of this football maths floating around at the moment.

£190 season tickets for U18's. Tenner a game and it keeps the young fans interested. Yep, well that's a good'un. I'd even think about extending it to under 21s, that's exactly the time to get kids hooked on it and it's not really the sort of thing that would piss season ticket holders off imo. Money in the bank and more seats filled.
