Rooney will play left as he did v Wales. England still look like they'd get crucified against a top team but certainly look better than they did playing 442 of recent. I see the argument for playing Rooney on the left as he has played there more than a few times for Man United, but the way he has been playing he looks like the ball will just bounce off him everytime he takes a touch. Capello is a dead man walking anyways, so it's a bit of a moot point, but it would send a very big message if Rooney were to be left out for the rest of the qualifying campaign. Good point about Rooney and his first touch, which seems to be the main part of his game that has deserted him. I'm still not sure if it's mental (public revelations of involvement with prostitutes after birth of first child) or physical (manager plays him a week after an ankle injury, and then keeps him on for 30 minutes after the injury flares up again) I think it's the former, in which case I think/hope he'll come back to form. He's our big hope for international success. Somebody on here said words to similar effect the other day, but he's always trying the Hollywood ball and as a result tends to lose it constantly.

No it's not. Ibrahimovic has done all of that and is still only considered a 24m pound player, even at his height when he left Inter he cost £40m. Do you honestly think Carroll will achieve half of what he has? I bet he'll have less league winners medals than Alan Shearer. I can't call with any degree of certainty what Carroll will achieve in the game. He progressed to an insane degree within the space of 12 months, more than I've seen with any other player. If he keeps out of bother and doesn't pick up too many injuries then I personally rate his chances of becoming a top player. Anyway, that's not the point - the point is that Milan would be paying £24m for a player that will be at the top of his game for 3-4 years then he's worth nowt. Liverpool have bought a player that could be the spearhead of their team for the next ten seasons or so, or 3/4/5 seasons or so when they can sell him and perhaps get a lot of their money back. Or of course he could flop, or go to jail, or whatever, but that's the risk you take. Henry was arguably the best player in the Premier League when Barcelona bought him, but due to his age and his contract he only cost Barca about £16m. Each set of circumstances is different, making a lot of these player-vs-player money comparisons totally irrelevant and misleading.

The Ibrahimovic comparison's a bit daft tbh. Yeah, he's achieved a hell of a lot more than Carroll but he's 29. Unfortunately it's this 'resale value' issue again. If Milan try to sell Ibra in 3 years they'll get coppers for him, whereas if Liverpool flog Carroll after 3 years they could quite easily make their money back if all goes well. Of course it's a risk (mainly because of Carroll being a knacker) but they've bought someone who could lead their line for 10 years or that they could make good money back on if they ever decide to sell.

great to see who? Some people are very crazy about stuff..... Says you, who thought it would be great to Ashley drinking with the fans again. He's the biggest glue sniffer on the forum without a doubt. -
Agree 100% with everything Wullie's said in this thread.

Makes me feel absolutely fucking sick to my stomach tbh. -
Downing still looks piss-poor to me, never been much of a fan whatsoever.

Yeah, as usual my views lie somewhere in between. Our first choice back 4 clearly needs to be Simpson-Williamson-Colo-Enrique, but I've got no problem with Taylor coming in if Williamson's injured. And he's not suddenly a guaranteed disaster at right back because of 1 terrible game, I've seen him have decent games there and tbf he was probably rusty against Everton. As a person he does seem a bit of a cock though.

Is it just me or is Steven Taylor far, far more popular amongst our general support than on here? This extends to the likes of True Faith and The Mag from what I've seen - I mainly see him getting slagged off on here and nowhere else.

They knew what they were getting when they bought him.
