When were Newcastle last top of the league? @Yorkieyou’re good at this sort of thing And when were we last in the top 4 for an extended period of time? E.g more than one game

Leeds 2-0 Bournemouth Man City 3-0 Fulham (double) Forest 1-1 Brentford Wolves 0-2 Brighton Everton 1-0 Leicester Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal Villa 1-2 Man United Southampton 0-2 Newcastle West Ham 1-0 Palace Spurs 2-1 Liverpool

This. If I did have a long sleeve shirt, sleeves would be rolled up however.
-
Would be great if they did. The City game postponement keeps things interesting for sure…
-
Currently on 95 points Up to 8th in NO league

Can Arsenal win the league…?
-
And worst case scenario, you know it would be reinvested properly.

A lad I know went in the Directors Box before they tore it down and said it was the most splendid thing you’ve ever seen. He wished he had a camera with him that day!

Quite a while to catch up then

At 50 years old and counting is the East Stand the longest consecutive running stand in the history of the club? Or does it still have a good few years to beat the Old West Stand?

I do worry about this tbh

I really don’t understand the London accent these days like…

Villa copying Newcastle again it seems

Possibly right. But certainly in my life time of watching (since 2001) - I can’t think of a better centre back pairing. Woodgate was the best I’d ever seen but he was paired with the likes of Dabizas or Bramble…and had Bernard and Griffin as Full backs. Trippier is the best full back I’ve seen on a consistent basis. Pope’s kicking is poor, but his shot stopping seems as good as Given’s (early days yet…) and his commanding of the area is way better than Given. Burn is solid at the moment, and allows us to play a back 3 at times. Offensively he isn’t great, but all in all, I can’t think of a stronger back 4 in terms of individually or as a unit.

Could well be a close debate…but as the season progresses it will be interesting… We’re currently on course to have our best PL defensive record. 95-96 we conceded 37 in 38 games. Fewest league goals conceded in a season was 33 in 34 matches in 1904-1905 when we won the league.

Side note. I had this conversation on Wednesday with my dad’s mates (one of whom has been going since 1968) and I’ll roll it out onto the forum. Is this the best back 5 (including Pope) Newcastle have had in living memory?

Nailed the Forest result

Yorkie man. I’m sure we’re the same person at times I am finding it really strange supporting the club at this moment. I feel like I have imposter syndrome, supporting us to the Nth degree like I did 10+ years ago. It’s a very very strange feeling. I just never thought A) I’d get the feeling back and B) we would be challenging the top 6 in such a short space of time. Surreal.

Absolute mud bath

Totally agree.

Would snap your hand off for a boring 0-0. I fear we’ll be too stretched with the squad we have at the moment and 3 games in 7 days. Gutsy 2-0 defeat.
