I still see the odd bit of brilliance in the Argentine highlights, but the problem is that his physical attributes and graft were already poor back then, and now he's well past his 30s and playing in a physical league like the PL? Bad idea.

The main problem is the centre of midfield not being strong enough and putting pressure on the back four. That, and Warnock having been a nightmare for almost 12 months now. Against Man United, we started with Jonathon Hogg (who most VIlla fans had quite literally never heard of until this season) and Barry Bannan in the middle. About 3 starts between them. I see... looking at your squad the only midfielders I'd presume to have some bite going for them are NRC and maybe Petrov (does he still have legs?). Aren't you playing that boy Clark in the middle too?

Interesting that Villa are such a mess as a defensive unit, always thought O'Neill was rather good at keeping it tight.

I find Zonal Marking to be really hit and miss at times. I think they've fallen into the area where they can write a bad bit of analysis and people don't mind as its 'Zonalmarking'. Like that f***ing awful bit on Crouch being class. I understand. They tend to overanalyze things and look for a tactical explanation for stuff that sometimes is just form or having a good/bad day at the office, but there's a lot of good to be had.

Marcelo has improved a lot defensively under Mou. I fear he'll turn him into a very good player.

Clichy's crap, really. He's the kind of player that looks good because he runs around a lot, while he's actually very ineffectual.

Atlético's left full back is cursed. Everybody turning up there becomes crap. Wonder if there's an indian semetary or something buried to the left of the goals. Filipe Luís is quality though, and better than Abidal indeed. Was really pissed off when we didn't buy him last season, although Maxwell has been ok. On this season's form Marcelo is better than José too.

Honestly José Enrique is a good player, but not *that* good. He relies in his physique a lot and his technique isn't all that.

When allowed to Abidal is very good going forward actually. But that doesn't happen much when Dani Alves is on the other side of the pitch. And we have Maxwell when we need two attacking fullbacks.
