To be fair we reduced them to speculative long balls, They are capable of a lot more given the chance. Oh absolutely, our tactics restricted them. We pressed well first half. Still, their win at Arsenal had people jumping the gun. They're still average, as is Lambert. May they and their fans have a season of strife.

Picked the correct team and made decent changes. Well done. Despite apparently coaching all the technique out of our players, we looked very threatening going forward. If we are lucky with injuries, this season will be canny.

Whey he obviously has the power of choice, being human and all. If, however, he wishes to stay in his job and attempt to do the best he can for Newcastle United, his choices are limited. Nobody is claiming he is a bastian (schweinsteiger?) of decency man, just realistic about his viable options.

He's been banging on about strengthening the squad all summer, including after our first win of the season. Why would it only damage confidence now? All managers state they're going to strengthen. He's been left in a situation now where he has to get the best from an average squad. Bleating on about how we failed to bring in anyone better isn't the best way to go about it. In an ideal world he'd be able to come out and burn images of Ashley in a dramatic voodoo ceremony, unfortunately that's not possible. I'm not sure why any sensible person would expect him to do anything other than accentuate the positives.
