  1. Kluivert got a standing ovation v Barcelona when he got substituted. He was outstanding that night. I was so excited when we signed him....
  2. Mackems at home, or away please. Didn't really notice the difference last year with them turning their ground into a pop up SJP, handing us the home end, and giving us a massive allocation.
  3. It did easily! We had season tickets in the family enclosure back then. Atmosphere was just totally off the scale. Lindisfarne performing on the half built Leazes End pre match! 3 mins 53 secs of that video you even get a quick glimpse of the East Stand up out their seats singing and dancing. Imagine that these days! Think that Leicester game is still my all time favourite. Just felt like we'd arrived!
  4. Aye I can totally relate to that. Had my ST since Ardiles, chucked it under Ashley but even after the takeover my enthusiasm for it all is nowhere near it once was. West Ham was the first league match I've been to this season (also went to Wimbledon and I'm going to Liverpool, Brentford, Villa so got a few together) so I should have been really up for it but I just couldn't get myself going at all. Would have been quite happy watching it in the house with a few cans. Truth be told it's not just NUFC it's top level football in general. These last 10 years or so I've been just as happy, if not happier, going to local Non League games instead, and even up to Berwick Rangers if nothing more local tickes my interest. Over that time I seem to have attached myself to 3 clubs which I've really enjoyed visiting. Heaton Stan, Percy Main, and Berwick. Also Gateshead but that's just the last 2 years when we got free season tickets due to my son playing for one of their junior teams. Not sure I'd pay 22 quid to watch them. It's pretty much guaranteed at least 1 of them will be at home on any given Saturday so it's just a case of taking my pick depending on which game takes my fancy. Obviously the standard of football is nowhere near the same but as an overall day out, and factoring in the cost, I prefer the Non League stuff nowadays. They are genuinely appreciative of your support and then you read stories on here from @JP about their treatment by NUFC and I sometimes think I'm better off out of it. I wasn't going to renew my membership this season but relented when they said we could choose our seats instead of random allocation but I do think this will be my last year. Didn't enjoy Wimbledon, didn't enjoy West Ham. 2 utterly miserable atmospheres. I'll see how these next 3 go but getting the feeling that my days as an active match going supporter are coming to an end.
  5. Agree. Standing was never a safety issue. Fences were the problem. Germans absolutely pack them in behind the goals at their grounds every week with no problems at all. Actually standing in a seated area is more dangerous than standing on a safely designed terrace
  6. I reckon she must have been there about 20 years. Haven't got a clue how someone like her can survive so long in a job where you are constantly interacting with the public as she had zero people skills and goes out of her way to be rude and obnoxious.
  7. Others include West Ham stand behind both goals (lower bowl), both lower tiers at Chelsea stand, Villa are stood behind both goals (lower tiers), Ipswich 1 goal (lower tier), Southampton, Wolves all stood behind 1 goal, and drop down a league to the bigger grounds and Leeds stand behind both goals, Derby, Boro, Hull have a full standing area behind 1 goal. It's something that's never happened at SJP. I think Monday night was a stark reminder that the atmosphere argument, or people saying we'd loose that, doesn’t really stack up. I fail to see how it could be any worse at a new stadium, especially when they'd be able to group like-minded people together. Evertons new ground will be interesting. It's clearly been built with acoustics in mind with the steep stands and a Kop like end behind 1 goal. See how it compares to Goodison.
  8. I'm actually not sure if there's the appetite for it amongst the fans. % wise we have the most seated fans in the league. At just about every other ground there was always a full stand stood behind at least one the goals and in some cases both goals even before SS was introduce. It's something that's never happened here. I recalled the other week about how I was asked to sit down in the Gallowgate so the bloke behind could see Schars penalty. Any other ground and everyone is stood up especially in the so called home end for a penalty. Even when away clubs return tickets and we have home fans in the L7 safe standing area they nearly all sit down.
  9. They claimed 12k empty seats when in fact it was an awful lot more. For some reason they just won't attend midweek games.
  10. Hope common sense prevails mate. You've tried to do the right thing and been honest and up front and the club have acted completely irrationally here and even if technically it is against the rules the "crime" certainly doenst warrant the punishment. To be honest you've also been extremely unlucky with the woman who dealt with you. She's well known for being extremely rude and unhelpful. Been in twice now when she's had full blown rows with supporters and on both occasions they werenin the right. My guess is that if you'd been dealt with by anyone else this doesn't happen as the rest of them, especially the young lads who work in there are generally sound. Meanwhile the club are happy to turn a blind eye of livetickets.com touting seats for ÂŁ200+ for every home game. Makes you sick.
  11. You can download it then remove it and it will download to another device. I wasn't aware of this until Monday but it worked no problem.
  12. I got 2 season tickets transferred to me from my mate and his wife with the intention of taking the bairn. Downloaded them to my Google wallet and then on Monday he takes ill so I sold it on Facebook. Removed it from my Google wallet and just sent the buyer the email with the link to download it to his device (at his request I was happy to meet him outside amd scan him in before me) and he got in no problem. I'd been reluctant to do that as I'd heard that once you've downloaded it you can't do it again and didn't want him getting knocked back at the turnstile and thinking I'd conned him but it worked fine. I'll be honest I just don't understand the rules any more!
  13. Southern accent as well? She's been there for years. Horrible woman. So rude.
  14. Agree we were very unlucky last season. Injuries, the penalty farce in Paris, plus what you've mentioned. However this season hasn't been a bad luck story, it's just been bang average, results and performances. There were plenty of legitimate reasons for last seasons downturn but there isn't for what's happened so far this season. I also think that losing his 2 biggest allies in Amanda and Mehrdad might be telling.
  15. I'll take your Zenith Data Cup match and raise you the Anglo Italian Cuo match v Cesena where I was one of the 4,000 crowd. There was a cat walking around the Strawberry Corner during the 2nd half
  16. Haha no problem Yorkie! Sorry like but if we've gone from 4th to 8th to once again not qualifying for Europe then clearly the club isn't headed in the right trajectory and we should be looking at a new approach. There were valid reasons for last seasons downturn but the results this season have been pretty poor and a lot of the performances uninspiring. We look a million miles away from the team of 2 seasons ago. If we finish outside the European places and don't win a cup I think they'll get rid, and he should have no complaints about that either.
  17. Aye it's probably just time playing tricks on the memory. Looking back there was some horrific midweek games atmosphere wise. Cambridge at home with 13k there. Southend at home that same season they didn't even bother opening the Leazes End that night and the season before when we played Oxford midweek the crowd was 10k. I was sat in the benches and a mate from school was stood directly opposite in the Milburn Paddocks. He shouted over at me and I could hear him
  18. Don't know mate but they have 90,000 on their waiting list so aye they'd have been massively over subscribed! Not sure if they issue loyalty points to members. I know every year a small number of season tickets are put on sale at Chelsea and as they issue LPs to members, that's how they determine who is eligible to apply for one.
  19. Must admit I hate midweek matches now. Used to love them as a kid. Always used to feel a bit more special in the dark with the floodlights on and the atmosphere was usually better. They are just a chore now. Public transport is utter shit so I was sat there in the 2nd half wondering if I'd be getting a bus, having to fork out for an expensive taxi whilst it sits in huge traffic jams, or facing a 1hr+ long walk back.
  20. They issued loads of new sesson tickets when they moved. They had around 28k ST holders at White Hart Lane and they now have 42,500 general admission ST holders and a further 8,000 Premium ST holders. I'm not sure what the answer is but it's increasingly becoming a problem and it's not going to go away.
  21. Literally no excuse for not qualifying for Europe this season with us having a far lighter schedule than most the teams we are competing against for those positions. If we don't qualify for a 2nd year running I think he'll be sacked, and tbf he probably should be*. *Obviously if we won the League Cup for example that changes everything.
  22. Read something a while back that the average age of a Chelsea ST holder is 58. I reckon the only reason ours will be lower than that is due to all the youngsters in Level 7. It's only going to go up as well.
  23. Probably in the wrong place this but since it's been brought up surely last night again shows that a new stadium could improve the atmosphere 10 fold. I was in the Gallowgate (upper), our so called home end and it was shocking. You look around at the demographic of people in there and in the olden days most of them would have retired to the East Stand or the old West/Milburn Stand by now but they're still sat there behind the goal draining the life out of the place. Noticed yesterday, even at 0-0 when the atmosphere was decent, even when a good song goes up there's probably less than 1 in 6 people joining in and looking around the ground it's just pockets of fans trying to get things going but they're just too diluted and spread out. The SE Corner is still the best bit but even they went pretty quiet 2nd half. You've got maybe 1,500 or so in there doing their best. Pockets of fans in the Gallowgate Upper, maybe numbering 1,000 or so were trying to get things going as well. Fair play to those in the NE Corner as even in the 2nd half you could hear them trying to rouse the team and then you've got someone the young 'uns up next to the away fans in L7 who sing. Problem is they're all so spread out. A new stadium would enable us to get them all together, in one stand and immediately you've got a good few thousand like minded supporters all in the same place and an immediate upturn in the atmosphere. I mentioned this the other day about the acoustics and once again it was evident tonight. Literally couldn't hear the away fans from where I was sat but I left on 85 cos the buses are an absolute joke for midweek games (ended up having to walk back to Wallsend after Wimbledon) and the West Ham fans sounded very loud as I was walking past the Labour Club and could still hear them on Percy Street, yet not a thing inside the ground! A stadium that retains the noise would be much better than the design we have now.
  24. Was vert good in the Gallowgate 1st Half. 2nd half died a death understandably given how shit we were.
