That's such bullshit, man He had his poor games, but he also had performances that made it easy to see why he's rated so highly. Just look in his thread after some of the early performances, nothing but compliments for his anticipation and marking.

Normally I hate to go against players leaving for Europe, but he just isn't ready. He only got a little bit of playing time when he was traded here. While he did well, he immediately got injured and hasn't played since. If he's such a good prospect than why has he played for three MLS teams before the age of 21? major red flag. Fagúndez is a much better prospect. I don't blame him for leaving, most 20-year olds are going to leave to Europe on a free, just wish it was to Ligue 1 or the Eredivisie. Still, he's one of the few strikers Stoke have that is a giant and runs with the ball, he could see decent game time. What's Fagúndez' status with the national team, is he a citizen?

Sounds absurd, but I guess if you opt out of League Cup that only leaves a few extra games of the FA Cup and the Champions League, which I assume most want to go to. Still, people shouldn't be forced to buy a ticket for a game they know they can't make.

Well they're going to (attempt to) improve whether I want them to or not. It would be different if this were January and the table had somewhat worked itself out, then there are teams I know we'll compete against who I can actively want for/against signing someone. I just don't see Bent signing for Fulham having that much of a negative effect on us, and I think it would be a good move.

As you say, they're a nothing club, it's not like signing Bent is going to make them top class, just a signing that would make sense for both the club and the player. I'd rather have Gomis anyway, would bring much needed hold up ability.

Carroll's success here was definitely a bit more special for me, but I'll probably feel that way about any player coming through the academy, foreign or English. I don't really find any special connection to English players, to the point where I'm much more excited about Europeans/South Americans. I'm just going to find it hard to relate to any player who makes thousands a week, but I guess if we signed an American it would be a different story.

If you think the USA are "that bad" then where does that put Iceland if he'll choose us over you? And on the other side of the same coin, it shows that Iceland has a long way to go to compete with nations like the USA if one of their starlets feels it's better for his career to declare for the US. I understand very well why he picked USA over us, its because of WC and higher profile resulting in higher income. We're too big, and haven't cared about the sport long enough. A youth system has only really been in place since the 90's, and there's still no way to organize a youth training system nationwide. Players are missed all the time, and technique isn't worked on enough at youth levels. We have gotten better at it recently though, and utilizing players with duel nationality and heavily scouting hispanic communities are two examples.
