And on the other side of the same coin, it shows that Iceland has a long way to go to compete with nations like the USA if one of their starlets feels it's better for his career to declare for the US. A youth system has only really been in place since the 90's, and there's still no way to organize a youth training system nationwide. Players are missed all the time, and technique isn't worked on enough at youth levels. We have gotten better at it recently though, and utilizing players with duel nationality and heavily scouting hispanic communities are two examples. Doesn't make much sense to me, there should've at least been a loan option to a European team, then he could come back after the World Cup. I know MLS wants to keep American players, but we also need them moving to Europe for the national team, which is more important to me.

Sounds like Dempsey is seriously on his way to Seattle. Rumors started yesterday, but I just assumed it was bs, he was in San Francisco and so were Everton so that made a lot more sense. Don't see any reason why he couldn't find a European club for at least a World Cup year, but I guess it's a coup for MLS.
