Decent pre-season game, as we know that final finish was lacking, but everything else has been decent, sustained some decent Atalanta attacks, and defended solidly so much so I can't remember Pope making a save, and we had a few decent sustained bits of pressure, that could and should have resulted in a few more goals.

Can see why Howe want to keep Anderson this season.

From what I saw, which wasn't much given the steam, we looked decent and had a couple of sustained spells of attack. Anderson and Miggy the standouts. Fraser looked pap.

I think it's clear that Botman will be our first choice going forward, but Howe may want to do what he did with Bruno and ease him if for a game or two to allow him to get used to the physicality and pace of the Premier League.

I highly doubt it's the case, if anything id say the back 5 today is the back 5 that starts next week.

Trying to glean anything from the 2 lineups is futile tbh. They've all played with each other at various points throughout pre-season, so the team could be anyone's guess.

I think we're both kind of falling foul of each other using different language here tbh. I don't think the aim for this season should be between 8th and 12th, the aim should be trying to do what West Ham did last season, and I think the players and staff will be thinking that, but I don't think it'd be a failure if we finished between that 8th to 12th spot without being in any trouble at any point, and doing that would be progress on where the club has been, especially if we have a cup run.

But thats not the point, that squad hadn't been getting mid-table, people are meerly saying that having a season without ever being scared of relegation would be tangible progress as a club as that hasn't happened for literal years.

Why can't you though? You can admit that both the squad could do better under Bruce, while also being please about not being drawn into a relegation battle for the first time in 13 years.

I personally don't think that, so long as we feel them in by the end of the window. Its always great to say "Sign all the players before the season start" but realistically for most clubs that never tends to happen, as its later in the window when clubs refine there squad lists that players become available and things begin to move. It was the same in January.

Just because we haven't made any signings in a couple weeks, doesn't mean it faltering like, there is still over a month of the Window left, we've got rid of a fair bit of the deadwood, and signed 3 first team players already.

14th would probably be a failure, but anywhere between 12th and 8th without any risk of relegation at any point, and a decent cup run would be decent progress from where we were imo.

I legitimately could not have asked for more from where we were when the takeover happened to now to be honest, its why I don't find it "disappointing" in the slightest.
