Liverpool turn down chance to sign Newcastle's Gordon IMAGE SOURCE,GETTY IMAGES Image caption, Anthony Gordon came on as a late substitute for England in their goalless draw with Slovenia at Euro 2024 on Tuesday Mandeep Sanghera BBC Sport journalist Published 22 minutes ago 26 Comments Liverpool have turned down a proposal from Newcastle United which involved Anthony Gordon joining the Reds and Jarell Quansah moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal. The Anfield club did not view the deal as being right for them, even though 23-year-old forward Gordon is a player they admire. Gordon, who joined the Magpies in a £45m deal in January 2023, is with the England squad at Euro 2024, coming on as a late substitute in Tuesday's goalless draw with Slovenia in his only appearance of the tournament so far. A player who is also liked by Paris St-Germain, he scored 11 league goals for Newcastle last season and won the club's 2023-24 player of the season award., external ADVERTISEMENT Liverpool did not make any offer and they would not consider losing 21-year-old Quansah. The centre-back became a first-team regular last season and was in the preliminary England squad for Euro 2024, missing out on the final 26-man squad for the tournament. In addition, Liverpool are well stocked in the forward positions with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota among their options. Newcastle have been contacted for comment by BBC Sport.

Minteh has a much higher ceiling than Elanga, for those who watch lots of football we've all seen enough of Elanga to know this.
-
From what I've seen of Elanga he's fast but that's about it. This is all so fucked up.
-
Imagine what he’ll do to Dan Burn when we play Brighton/Everton
-
Well the club could grow some balls and sue the premier league for multiple reasons. However apparently we are more pussy cat than lion so there would probably hardly be a whimper.
-
If it is true I'm on team Minteh.
-
Should have bought him before his price rockets.
-
I'm with Minteh on this if it's true of course. The club have had months to come up with some dodgy sponsorship's or sell someone else. Who you ask? How about the one who signed for us knowing he was going to get banned. Someone in Italy would pay 30m or so for the idiot.
-
Hadn't heard that before.
-
Auteur d’une bonne saison avec Newcastle United, Bruno Guimarães pourrait partir durant ce mercato estival. Lors de son transfert en 2022, l’OL avait réussi à négocier un intéressement de 20 % sur une éventuelle plus-value.
-
That's why I half jokingly suggested cashing in on Tonali. What's really interesting about Minteh would be just watching how good he can become, it's the great unknown with players that young who show promise, it allows us to dream that maybe we have found a world class player. Watching him become something special with someone else would be very depressing.

Cherki is linked with PSG as is every promising young french player.
-
The french press have Marseille, Roma and Everton in for Minteh. I've an idea how to get around the PSR problem by the end of the month. Sell Tonali for 30m back to Italy, we won't have missed anything as apart from one game he was at best average and the rest of the time suspended. And the fucker hasn't apologised.
-
BBC being very kind saying that the Scottish goal deflected off Fab.
-
Definitely good going forward, not sure how good defensively. Bit like Hall.
-
Don’t see why, he’s played around 50 games now and hasn’t scored. We all want local lads to succeed but if they aren’t good enough and we want to progress hard decisions need to be made. Longstaff scored 8 goals last season and most people don’t think he’s good enough.
-
I'd test Chelsea and see if they want to sell Madueke who is 22, a RW who actually can use his right foot when required and to me has massive ability and future potential. If Chelsea buy Olise they are surely going to try and sell someone who plays RW and it won't be Palmer.
-
Well we won the most injured players championship last season and Kelly is a great buy to keep us number 1.
-
He'd be our starting RW which would likely mean Barnes and Gordon would never start together.
-
Why is there a thread about Manchester United? I don't see one about Manchester City or Burnley or Wolves. Sack it off. Nobody is interested.
-
The only two that have really showed promise are Fofana and Colwill and both have been injured a lot. The rest of them have looked very unconvincing for the prices that Chelsea paid even though they were apparently highly regarded before they were bought.

Gordon in an interview said he didn't like playing on the right and Eddie has shown no inclination to play him there. The others I mentioned all prefer playing on the left although none are conventional wingers. IMO Joe Linton is a much better wide player upfront than in midfield. And you don't state that other peoples opinions are nonsense just try sticking with not agreeing with them.
