  1. The Gunners have also been handed a boost in their January pursuit of Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, 26, following reports that Newcastle are searching for his replacement. (Football London) Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are among at least six clubs interested in signing England midfielder Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City, with the 28-year-old's future set to be decided next week. (Telegraph - subscription required) Newcastle United are scouring Europe for possible midfield reinforcements with a move for priority target Phillips entirely dependent on the player convincing Manchester City to lower their demands. (i news - subscription required) The Magpies sent their head of scouting to watch Atalanta midfielder Ederson in a 5-0 win against Frosinone but the Italian club have no interest in selling the 24-year-old Brazilian in January. (TuttoMercatoWeb - in Italian)
  2. Newcastle have called off their pursuit of England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, 28, because of Manchester City's demands for a loan fee. (Telegraph - subscription required) As well as the Magpies, Crystal Palace, Everton, West Ham and Juventus are interested in signing Phillips. (Sky Sports) Paris St-Germain are considering a move for Newcastle's Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, 26, who has a £100m release clause. (Talksport)
  3. Just buy Kalvin Phillips for fuck's sake. One short pass and and our midfield has disappeared and then goal.
  4. Juventus have pulled out of the race to sign 28-year-old Manchester City and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, who is also wanted by Newcastle United. (Sun)
  5. Unless FFP and FMV get blown up by someone we are likely to remain roughly the 6th biggest club in the premier league in terms of income along with all the disadvantages that goes with that . If the Saudi's build a big shiny new stadium with increased capacity and match day and sponsoring opportunities similar to Spurs we might be able to compete with them again. We are still going to be well behind the Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, which means less money to buy players, pay wages and virtually all the time this is reflected in the finishing position of the club.
  6. Girona manager Michel Sanchez has emerged as a potential replacement for Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe. (Marca - in Spanish)
  7. Newcastle United are determined to not be too reactive to their injury issues and stick to a long-term plan in the transfer market, meaning a move for Manchester City and England midfielder Kalvin Phillips, 28, could be in doubt. Fulham and Crystal Palace also hold an interest in the former Leeds man. (I Sport)
  8. Definitely not average and who knows whether or not the money would be well spent. Tonali is currently a waste of money. Virtually every successful team in the world plays with a defensive midfielder apart from this version of an unsuccessful NUFC.
  9. Don't be ridiculous, that would require not playing 433.
  10. Even Botman who is one of our better players is seriously flawed due to his lack of pace.
  11. Newcastle are set to terminate Issac Hayden's loan at Standard Liege with several Championship clubs interested in the 28-year-old English midfielder. (Football Insider)

  14. He is I'm sure thinking hard about what to do to get us out of the rut we are in. We do have a distinct style of play which we very rarely vary from, intensity is very much our identity etc. Unfortunately when your players are injured or knackered this approach won't work as we are finding out. De Zerbi at Brighton is another manager with a very distinct inflexible style, playing out from the back at all costs, fantastic to watch when it works but painful when it doesn't. Managers need to be tactically flexible and inventive and most of all win games. Otherwise they lose their jobs.
  15. Eddie definitely doesn't change formations and generally doesn't rotate never mind experiment. He appears after two years here to be tactically as inflexible as it gets.
  16. Tonali knew and he didn’t tell us. As far as I know he hasn’t apologized either.
  17. Put a defensive midfielder like Phillips behind him and he'll look a lot better as will Bruno.
  18. It's a good question because Barnes for sure can only play LW and Gordon doesn't look good on the right. I've said it before but wide left is arguably the best position for Barnes, Gordon, Anderson, Willock and Joe Linton so who knows what the thinking is. Isac also seems to be good wide left as well. It's a conundrum that needs resolving.
  19. Six defeats out of Seven and by the end of January something very ugly. Wonder how itchy PIF are feeling?
  20. Gibbs White has marked Bruno when he needed to but Bruno certainly hasn't marked him back.
  21. If we lose this is very much on the manager, picking Burn against Elanga in the first place is bad but then keeping him on for the second half, awful misplaced loyalty.
