All these targets are massively unispiring. Picking from relegated teams is never a good plan unless they're standout players. Admittedly they're all better than what we have, but at the end of the day if they were better they might not have been relegated. Was a bit different when we went down as they players were clearly good, just massively mismanaged Robertson did alright for himself. I’m pretty sure we sold a few players when we last went down, who then went on to compete in a CL final a few years later. Anyone who says Sissoko was a stand out player for us is off their rocker too.

iirc it wasn't so much missed in due diligence but never did it in the first place, anyone who did do due diligence before MA ran for the hills once they saw the books I think people need to remember that the club was a PLC before Ashley bought us and as a consequence had to publish far more detailed accounts. The only debt Ashley had to settle immediately was the remainder of the Mortgage for the expansion, which I believe was around £60M and had 5 or 6 years left to run. He started with the media crap, complaining about the fact we still owed cash on the Owen transfer etc, but as others who’d examined the accounts at the time pointed out we were owed more in outstanding transfer deals, than we owed to other clubs. Complaints by Ashley and his cronies to 5e contrary was the start of trying to lower our expectations IMHO. Interesting take. Not really, I thought it was well understood that the clubs debt has risen as a consequence of the relegations. The mortgage with Barclays was well known at the time, I don’t understand how the narrative has become so twisted after 12 years. I guess the adage of repeat a lie often enough and people will believe it, is true.

I seem to recall it had more to do with him continually backing off until the attacker was in a perfect shooting or crossing position. He also retreated into himself after getting rinsed once and we would effectively be playing with 10 men. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Spend a decent wedge on a Merino type No10 (ie at top club but not playing) and whack in a loan with option to buy for Batshuayi. We can afford to give Chelsea a big wedge for him next summer, Costa clearly doesn't rate him but I think he'd transform us.

Because he was a Striker who'd moved for big money and hadn't scored many goals. I certainly don't remember a massive queue of teams lining up to buy him. Could there not be a case that they have conspired to keep him off the register by concealing his plans to plead guilty to at least some of the charges? Again not going to be punished by the FA, but the club have questions to answer.

Or maybe his WhatsApp history would constitute evidence more reliable than memories from 30 years ago. Also I rather suspect that those in the courtroom have been privvy to further evidence not reproduced on Twitter. The idea that this case is purely one person's word against another's is absurd.
