Unless you have shown immense potential at a young age like the Messis and the Ronaldos, there is no guarantee that a player will become good or adapt to a league. Least you could do is to give him matches and a chance to prove himself and we didn't even do that. Confidence player? What an over-rated and over-used term. Heck, if I'm treated that shite, I would lose all confidence too.

Not sure that's quite right. He was accused of looking little better than Simpson, and rightly so IMO. Obviously he improved massively. Pretty sure there were a few wanting so. He did look awful but my point was that thankfully we gave him chances and he had the opportunity to adapt and show what a good player he is. Not so for Mapou.

You don't even need to look that far back. Just the beginning of the season, there were already people wanting Simpson back instead of Debuchy and wanted him sold. Given time to adapt, he then proved himself to be an impressive player. Despite showing signs of what he could do (Spurs' goalline clearance, recovery pace, reading of the game, comfort on the ball) and a string of good performances with a settling CB partner, Mapou was canned immediately in favour of the returning Colo. Pardewed, not given game time, openly scapegoated for losses, missing out on the WC, it's no surprise his confidence has been affected. And people are agreeing he should be sold ffs.

Wouldn't be a starter even if he is in the final list.

Mustn't be an easy task using NUFC to start a bidding war for your player.

He'd get plenty of game time considering our lacking of options in central midfield and out wide (defensive wide player, hooray!). Having a potential Pardew supporter in the dressing room is probably an added bonus to the king.

Really p*ssed at this development. A youngish CB with pace, ability to read the game, one who led a minor team to the title, with the potential to improve even further, and we have seen glimpses of what he could do. All he needs are opportunities and time to adapt and we'd have a position and maybe the captaincy sorted for the next 10 years or so. And we have chosen to sell him. Bonkers.

Sell our CB with the highest potential instead of giving him every chance to make the position his own, while depending on 2 other CBs on the wrong side of 30, of which one is a limited defender no matter how decent a season he had. Wenger would have binned off the older player and have his next CB for the next decade sorted out. Pardew is the anti-Wenger in every sense. And great decision to get rid of our only CB with real pace. Brilliant. Hope the lad goes on to realise his potential somewhere else, become a 20m-rated defender or something. Would love it to have egg on those idiot's face and let them know how stupid they are.
