There was a huge Swiss Ramble tweet a few days ago covering this. It said we effectively had around £40m left to spend this window IF we didn’t increase commercial income going forward.

Maybe they thought they may as well try and fail than not try at all.

This is absolutely fair.

Gah yeah you’re right. He landed me
-
Ummm… why? He was an integral part of the reason we stayed up.

I’m desperate for some signings too, I really am. I just think we will only get people in if they are the right fit. I don’t think we do anything knee-jerk now like we did in January with Wood when we were in desperate straits. Even if we are crying out for more squad depth. And even in January, Wood had been fully scouted and was clearly the right sort of character.

Man if they got some of the players from the Keegan years to come in and talk about what it was like, that would be amazing. Next level if they got Keegan himself to come in and do it too

I thought this. Paris to Lyon Then later that day, Newcastle to Lyon Does it ever go from Lyon to Newcastle first? What is this sorcery??
-
I’m not sure it will. I think they’d rather go with what we’ve got than bring someone who doesn’t fit the ethos/ work ethic / character requirements. It seems we’re run on strict principles now. Never pay over the odds, the right character etc Building for long term, sustainable success rather than short-term flash in the pan then disappear down the pan type stuff.

It’s pretty clear from recent articles that if we do get loans in that they’ll have to be players that will at least consider making their moves permanent or that Eddie is 100% convinced that they will give it their all while they are here.

I can’t see that anywhere on the Athletic mind

Probably chat to the player and his agent a bit more. Agree personal terms, show him a slideshow of the bridges etc

Ok, so this is a (slightly) better source

Newcastle United target Goncalo Ramos has reportedly turned his nose up at a potential move to Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest. According to Record, (via SportsWitness), Steve Cooper's side made a bid in the region of £27million for the Benfica striker earlier this month.
-
Nottingham Forest have bid for him.
-
Please bear in mind there are no concrete reports that we even want to bid for him. Concerned a few are going to be really upset when a target they’ve convinced themselves we are going for doesn’t materialise.
-
Think some local Portuguese journo before him. But it was all pretty vague things like ‘Newcastle may bid for him’
-
No bid made though? Seems a bit premature this..

There’s a good mixture of accents in there. Scottish, Irish, Manchester, London

Always looks pretty calm to me.
