"The Football Association's head of elite development Gareth Southgate"

I'll be furious if the yearly net spend is negative, regardless of how improved our squad may be. Furious.

The only player we've actually signed played in England last season and did very well. Huh? Ba. West Ham. England.

Sarcasm? Please?

Need another centre back imo. Colo, Williamson and Taylor isn't enough.

He was good enough for Liverpool yesterday. Cheer up.

Rennes midfielder Sylvain Marveaux has underlined that his transfer to Liverpool fell through because he could not agree personal terms with the Premier League side. The former France Under-21 international appeared set to sign for Liverpool on a free transfer from Rennes to put a couple of disappointing seasons, marred by injuries, behind him, but the move collapsed on Friday. Reports in France suggested the transfer did not go ahead as Marveaux could not pass a medical at Liverpool, but the midfielder has now declared that was not the source of the problem. "I do not want to go into details, but if I have not signed for Liverpool, it was because there was a contractual disagreement between the involved parties, Thursday evening," he told L'Equipe. Marveaux, who stated he was 'disgusted' to hear such reports about him, stressed he is fit to play: "Today, I can undergo a medical before you and you will see there is no problem," said the 25-year-old, who made just 10 appearances for Rennes in 2010-11.

More than 10 ok/good premier league matches before he is 25 would be a start? I obviously didn't say I was holding his desire to play games against him but then you knew that, didn't you? My point is that people are wanting him to stay to be on the bench but he has shown he isn't happy doing that.

If we can't find a better player than Leon Best for £4 million then we need to sack our scout/s. He's only had a few good games at this level and wasn't very happy about being on the bench when he returned from injury. “When the new manager came in. I knocked on his door every day and said ‘give me a chance, please be fair with me. If it’s a matter of you don’t like me, don’t rate me and you will never play me, then obviously I can’t affect that. If you are going to be fair, then I could do my best here’. I quite literally knocked on his door every single day for a couple of weeks. “He certainly got the message! I have just been taught to attack everything in life. I never sulk and toss it off. I will always try and keep going. When I was knocking on his door, I was saying ‘have you not being seeing what I have been doing in training? He said ‘why should I give you a chance? You have not scored any goals or made any assists even’. “I told him that I had scored ten before I arrived from Coventry last season. Then when I arrived I had Peter Lovenkrands, Shola Ameobi and Andy banging in the goals. It was hard for me to get in. Then I told him I scored two in three games during pre-season. He didn’t know I had been out that long through injury. I was emotional when Xisco got put on the bench before me. ( ) “The next game after training I said ‘am I any closer to the team?’ When I got the call against West Ham there was no pressure, it was just relief, and then everything falls in to place.”

Wonder Ba. After watching his West Ham highlights on the 'tube I can only see this as being a massive bargain, especially if the contract thing is true.

Both Gosling and Ireland passed medicals recently and played about 1 hour between them.

We need to buy 2 or 3 strikers in 2 (& 1/2) months. 1 is all but confirmed. It's hardly the time to panic/furiously kneejerk.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but there's some very winnable games in there. -

Looking at the fixtures we could have a fairly decent points total going into November. -
Getting a bit tiresome that line. Obviously there is a lot of very questionable stuff going on. We've sold 1 player who we'd already replaced and are on the verge of signing 2 more players. Times are bad...

Wullie finally collapsed He's having the time of his life. Probably typed all that with a smug grin.

Reading that has made me hate Ameobi just that little bit more.

Eh, based on what? "As to whether LuaLua has improved as a player and a person remains to be seen, but his time with Brighton must have been more beneficial than lolloping around Darsley Park with the stiffs. Putting aside his ill fortune with injury, a timely injection of lower league reality followed by a chunk of top-flight pitch time can only have enhanced his value and put a spring in his step." from .com

Did you listen to all of that part or just the bit that suited you?
-
Exactly. His price is a misnomer really, he was a very highly rated striker before the West Ham saga. What about the net spend? We can't possibly have progressed on the pitch if the net spend isn't high. /agenda

Sarcastic or childish?

I'm not convinced about the "isn't as good without Carroll" theory. He scored 8 before Carroll left but 5 of those were in 2 games and 1 was a penalty. He scored from open play on 4 separate occasions in the new year in a far worse team.
-
We may not be the best run club but having a scout buying our players is a bit too far. He'll show Pardew the players he finds and Pardew will pick and choose based on who is deemed obtainable under "the rules" imo.
-
I'd say he has had the final say in all incoming transfers. If not, who has the final say? The Carroll and Nolan deals are obviously over his head based on what he has said in the press and the Routledge loan is just baffling.
