Expecting Campbell to act as a competent backup or alternative, at this stage of his development, is in the realms of fantasy. He's a good lad, great work ethic and looks to have some ability. However, he needs to showcase that at a competitive level before he can be relied upon as one of our main striker options. He'll be 19 in January so it shouldn't be too unrealistic and Pardy has basically said he'll be staying here next year. I agree he needs games though. Not far off 19 with next to no experience isn't good. It's unrealistic due to his current experience of competitive football. It's unfair because he still wouldn't be developing or obtaining this experience whilst sat on the bench. It's best for all involved if he finds a League One/Two club for next season. He should really have been out on loan this season rather than next, making him "ready" for the upcoming season. I'd go as far as to say he's wasted a year of his career waiting for a chance he was never going to get. That's probably Pardew's fault for not planning ahead imo.

We shouldn't be replacing our best players just because someone has bid for them. Despite what we're always told, we don't need the money and the replacement could well be crap. We've got a foundation of good players at present and we should be adding to them.

He's loathsome. If the rumours about him from West Ham and Southampton are true then he shouldn't be anywhere near a decent club. But it's not what you know it's who you know

"if anything". He certainly hasn't improved in his time here. If we knew nothing about him before he signed he'd not be getting such an easy ride imo.

If he doesn't sign a new contract this summer I think he'll be leaving at some point. There's 2 years left now so it's an ideal time to sort one out.

Bang on. Also, he needs to play well himself before he can argue he has outgrown us. Unless we go massively backwards... I do agree though. I didn't see anything of Cabaye before he signed but I'd be staggered if he has improved as a player in his time here. He's going backwards if anything.
