I’m not judging anyone who does. I think I said I hope he gets injured, after he left. Think I’ve mellowed a bit about it all now now. I do agree. But he plays really aggressively like that. Usually a strength, but he has been rolled in midfield a few times because of it. I think two ended up in big hacks and yellow cards. He should know better. But everyone was up the pitch from that counter and maybe he didn’t realise he’d be so isolated and the last man. Shame. As he was flawless again bar that massive howler.

People are really struggling with this. Shoulder to shoulder doesn’t mean it’s never a foul FFS. Look at his leg and all. They’re most common between say a winger and fullback, running together down the line, genuinely competing for the ball. An actual 50/50 shoulder to shoulder. Not flying into someone as hard as you can with no intention of shielding or challenging for the ball.

Wouldn’t waste your time. Forever pissing and moaning and looking for the negatives.

He was superb today and glad to see him back to his old, full on self. He still showed moments of real quality. But I still think his biggest quality is his outrageous workrate. Posted the above in the week and I’m happy to see it back. Even if he is lacking in other areas. If he puts in half that effort most weeks. It would be hard to criticise him.

Love his movement and how he is always looking for the shot or cross. But he needs to get better at those back post finishes. Is that Barca, Spurs in the cup, City and today where he should have done a bit better. Hard chance, but his technique is great and he is often a clinical finisher. The one where Wissa plays him through maybe he should have shot earlier. But the more I see it. The more I think foul and James appears like he’s been shot out of a cannon.

He showed a couple of moments where he used his strength to play like a target man today. If he can develop that side of his game. To go with the fact his attacking movement has generally been better since the City game onwards. Then he is going to be some player. His post-match interview on TNT was very wholesome. Great bit between him and Crouch, as well.
