Aaron Ramsdale: return to Southampton confirmed
Lush Vlad replied to The Prophet's topic in Football
Schar in goal. -
After two promising games. Ramsey has disappeared. Useless and he’s hiding from the ball now. Could hear Howe before shouting “JJ. Get the ball!”
-
Might turn it off at half time. Sick of it ruining my weekend/week/Christmas

He gets a strong hand on it, so yes. I’d be keen to give him the benefit of the doubt with it and I feel like it would be a top save if he kept it out. But more than every other shot on target goes in against him. He is just a crap ‘keeper’. -

He’s a fucking shit keeper who is great with his feet. -
We have done fuck all other than win a few corners. Dreadful game, average performance and then we decide to gift them a goal and get their confidence up. Sick of watching us away this season. It’s abject.
-
Created the square root of fuck all, look sloppy at the back and we have 0 points from losing positions in the league. I wouldn’t be so sure, personally.
-
Probably need to start offering more of a threat than just the odd corner. Honestly, we’re a mess this season.
-
Fuck off Ramsdale and all. Crisp packets for hands
-
Fucking pathetic defending yet again. They’ve had fuck all. Gave them the ball back for the Cunha shot. Then that. Sick of this team being soft as fuck at the back

For ones where I was there live. Without giving it much thought, the below spring to mind straight away: HBA away to Everton - some bias with this one. But his performance along with Tiote’s brought a huge amount of positivity. Soon faded, of course. Cisse debut goal vs Villa. Ryan Taylor at home to Everton. Mate I was with did a Paully and celebrated the minute it left his foot Anita away at Club Brugge. Tiote v Arsenal. Almiron’s volley at Fulham. Burn v Athletic Bilbao.
-
Was told this after Chelsea. But I was also told he was playing v Fulham, if not Chelsea. So Lord knows.
-
I mean. Modern day fashion all looks a bit camp to me. I’ve got mates who lived in East London for a good while. One looks like Blanche from Corrie with some of his get up has always done well with the ladies, mind. I couldn’t give a dusty fuck about his sexuality. But I’m not sure him wearing some rascal clobber really confirms he is gay

Have a day off FFS.

They say you can’t hear an image. But……

Thiaw was far too aggressive there and left himself exposed with no cover behind him. It’s hard to be too critical. As it is a massive part of how he plays and it is one of the reasons he has been so good for us. Howe has his CB’s going man for man across almost the whole pitch at times, too. So it’s an instruction and you’re going to get rolled now and then. I think Thiaw has two yellows for rash tackles after getting skinned when touch tight, for example. It was brilliant play from Joao Pedro. But it’s still poor and naive defending from Thiaw in that situation IMO. He shouldn’t be going in so tight with nobody behind him. Especially when he knows Ramsdale is always glued to a spot somewhere near his goal and won’t be bailing him out sweeping up or with a save. Every other shot on target is a goal with him.

Arteta is an absolute terrorist. A scourge on the game.
-
Blurgh. Shootouts are often dull these days. Just keepers going a second or two early. Players who wait for the keeper to move. That Palace keeper had the game of his life. Then basically went the wrong way or got nowhere near 8 penalties.
-
Arteta with his standard haramball. He must be stopped. Come on Pep. Win the league again.
-
Probably as Decky says and also that more and more games are being shifted to that slot. I wonder why that could be? Couldn’t possibly be related to the time difference in America, could it…….

Aaron Ramsdale: return to Southampton confirmed

So does Pope by and large. He is routinely grilled for just launching it upfield or out of play. But I would argue he is far more involved in the build up than Given ever was. Due to the game evolving. Doesn’t mean he is any good at it. Neither would Given be. Like I said earlier on. It is one of the reasons I find it hard to compare keepers across eras. Even more so than outfield players. The demands have changed massively. If this league-wide trend of hoofball and aerial bombardment continues. Then the skillset required is going to have to change yet again. -

As crap as he is with his passing. Pope is used more just passing it about than Given ever was, yes. Given was terrible with his feet. Not sure that is even debatable? Pav has no relevance to this debate either. -

Was high pressing and keepers being fairly heavily involved in the build up even much of a thing when Given played? -
KingArthur is definitely a ref and some wanker has flushed his trainers in a dirty bog, after he's incorrectly sent them off.

I love how calm he is. Nothing seems to faze him. In some ways I'd love to see a bit more emotion and aggression from him. But the fact he doesn't seem to get too high, low, wound up etc. Is what makes him so good. I was so wrong about him. I thought he wasn't going to get minutes here, based on the way he was being used and I genuinely thought from last season into this, he might have been loaned out to aid his development. Thankfully I was wide of the mark there. Still not quite the prediction of Bassong going on to become one of the best CB's in the world. But not far off All that said, I think we'll still need to be patient with him and there might be some bumps in the road. Especially if he continues at right back. Showed a few times that he is a centre mid playing there and could have been punished. I'm sure the knives would have been out if he had been. Overall, on and off the ball, he has been brilliant there and offers a lot more than your traditional fullback on the overlap.
