Maybe. It wasn’t great last year either, though. Only glimpses. I’ve just never liked how we try and build from the back in that formation and it always looks a bit disjointed. We’re not a team that wants to build possession patiently as it is and I’m fine with that a lot of the time. But it is noticeably worse when we play with the 3.

I think we’ll see more 3 at the back whilst Tino is out and we have 4 top quality CB’s. Which is ok for certain games. But we’ve looked crap playing it. Far more than we’ve looked good, IMO.

Just read the shit news on Wissa. Then saw this. Nearly balanced it out.

I'm not saying he is strong on his left foot, although he will clip crosses in well enough on his left peg. But he looks a better defender and attacker when on the left. He seems really comfortable drifting in side and receiving passes in little pockets of space and making underlapping runs. Or just driving forward on the ball infield and sort of shunning the touchline at times He gets forward with much more success and confidence than on the right. When he is trying to get down the line or get in behind on the overlap from RB, he rarely looks as effective or like he is causing the other team problems. I can't say I've studied it enough or I'm clued up enough to know why he looks so much more comfortable on the ball on the left. But it is very noticeable IMO. As for the defending side, I think it's fairly obvious. Most teams play with inside forwards or inverted wingers these days. He's usually defending on his stronger foot. But he is also fast, agile and strong enough to stop wingers when they try to go on the outside. I think you're doing him a massive disservice in your assessment. I know recency bias always plays a part and we can get a bit hyperbolic as fans and I know we've hardly been spoilt for choice with great defensive fullbacks over the years. But he's by far the best defender at right or left back in my time watching (born in 89 FWIW). I'd say Enrique was the best before that. But he was far more one dimensional than Tino.

Replacing a manager they loved who has given the fans their best season in decades. With a thoroughly unlikeable bloke. Who also happens to have a style that is basically the polar opposite to what their success was built on. It never really seemed like a good idea. Which is a bit of an understatement. But I thought they might have got some kind of new manager bounce or the odd good performance or result. Not sure how long I thought it would be before they fully turned on him. But probably more than 6 games Destined to fail and doomed from the start. First win on Sunday then?!….

His only real weakness in his game is how indecisive he can be in the attacking third. He also occasionally switches off. But rarely gets punished when he does. Due to how quick and strong he is. He is better at left back. He’s elite at that position and I’m not sure there is a better one v one defender in the league on that side.

Poch would do a lot better than Ange, TBF.

Ange has rushed another defender back from injury. Who has then broken down after 20 odd minutes. Not like him at all…..
