  1. Scottish players A surprisingly cosmopolitan team from the old boys. They used to do well against teams that played in red, the opposition invariably went off injured half way through the game.
  2. Aye, you're in for a right treat Star trek on the computer, sunderland on the telly. Think i'll see more football on the computer tbh The Federation XI is pretty good tbf. Wesley Crusher Deanna Troi Riker Worf Beverly Crusher Guinan Picard Data O'Brien Q Worf No Cisko? Would Dax count as one player or two btw?

And set penises. Floated free kicks to Ranger at the back post.

It would be typical of this club if Ranger came in and saved our season.
  7. No way, we've spent most of my life in a transitional period. It's easier to do when you're in your 20's or 30's and have gone through the Keegan and Robson years which reduce the number of transitional periods as a percentage of what you've watched. What are we transitioning to though? Does anyone believe we're going to come out of this a better side playing good, flowing football and attacking teams the way we know we can? It could happen I suppose but if i'm being honest I can't see it. I'd love to be proved wrong and Pardew can have some time to prove me wrong I think.

Aye, our only problems are due to injuries and suspensions, christ. Are you under 25, Mick? That might be true if you swapped the two digits around. Maybe. And double it.
  9. To a large extent we are recreating some of the form we saw last year. Look back through the old Pardew thread and there's plenty of complaints about the performances and style of football even though the results were going our way.

Well, i'll put my point of view. I don't want him sacked, yet. We attained a good league position last season but we did it by playing some very poor football and to a large extent riding our luck. That obviously cannot continue indefinitely and now we're seeing the same kinds of performances, which I wasn't happy with last season, but the ball isnt breaking for us so we're not getting results. I want to see some progress on the field. I want to see us attacking the opposition and having a go at playing some decent football. I'd like to see a side that at least seems to have some idea of what they're trying to do going forward. I don't think Pardew will be able to achieve that. I'm willing to give him time and give him a chance to turn it around but based on what i've seen from him during his tenure I just don't believe he can do it.

Almost scored a cracker in the four four with Arsenal if i remember. One touch to control it beautifully past his marker then hammered it for the top corner.
  12. Exactly. This idea about having a defensive coach and a different one for attacking is just ludicrous. To attack you need to commit players forward, to defend you need to commit them backwards. You can't do both separately. It doesn't even have to be appointing a new 'attacking coach'. Just more focus on attack throughout the week. Carver said recently that Pards spends four days sussing the opposition, then Carver spends one day on 'how to win'. It's absolute bullshit. We've got some of the most talented players in the division; it should be the other way round. Especially when all the defensive work is being negated by the fact that our s*** attack constantly leaves us vulnerable. It also seems very inefficient to me. Each opponent plays a different way and so you'll need to focus on different areas and drills for each game. When you train on how we want to play it's consistent week to week and so you build on what you've done week after week, refining and improving things until everyone is totally at home with it. Basically, it's the difference practising poker one week, blackjack the next, bridge the next etc etc and just consistently and constantly practising poker until you're fucking awesomesauce.

I'm trying optimism. We might have turned things around by the time the knockout phase arrives.

He played a simple ball to Marveaux who then did all the work. Good job you got your wish though, eh? Yeah, it is, he helped us qualify. Both of them? Two wins and three draws. Against Maritimo, Brugge and Bordeaux. Woooooo. As far as 'win at all costs', i'd prefer to top the group and have a better chance of avoiding the CL dropouts and the better teams in the competition thanks.

You could just as easily say if HBA hadn't played then we would have lost. He created the goal and no bugger else was doing anything.
  16. Look at the lack of creativity in that side ffs. Ba and whoever partners him are gonna be feeding off scraps at best again.
  17. I'm starting to think maybe he's finally stamping his mark on the team.
  18. How do you get professional footballers from top quality teams to play like sunday league players after 10 pints and a vindaloo?
  19. It's ok, we're saving time now by just floating it straight to the keeper. No point in wearing down our foreheads.
