    Ryan Taylor

http://www.nufc.co.uk/articles/20130417/taylor-suffers-further-injury_2281670_3147418 Newcastle United are sad to announce that Ryan Taylor has suffered a further cruciate knee injury. Taylor, aged 28, and with 91 United appearances under his belt, injured his knee in the early stages of the home Europa League qualifier against Atromitos last August, undergoing surgery shortly after to repair the ligament damage. After making good progress over the past eight months and having just returned to training, this latest news is a massive blow to the popular player. Manager Alan Pardew said: "Ryan has worked so hard and diligently since his injury. "He has been a model patient and has given his all to ensure he could return to full training in the best condition possible. Clearly everyone at the Club is deeply saddened by this news. "Ryan has, and will continue to, receive the full support of everyone at Newcastle United during this difficult time for him." It is likely that Taylor will miss the majority, if not all, of next season. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Tim Krul will undergo surgery on Monday after dislocating his shoulder in the Tyne-Wear derby last Sunday. The Club expects him to return to training at the end of July.

Photograph: Craig Brough/Action Images Massadio Haïdara has spoken of the horror he felt at the tackle by Wigan's Callum McManaman on Sunday and his disappointment that no action will be taken against the player. In an interview with Le Parisien newspaper, Newcastle United's French defender said: "I really thought my leg was broken, I was in so much pain I couldn't think of anything. I was completely shocked – I still am. I've never seen such a tackle in football in my life. I shudder every time I think about it." Haïdara said he found it "hard to swallow" that McManaman will receive no punishment because the FA is prevented from taking retrospective action. "I don't understand," he said. "His tackle could have ended my career and ruined my life. I don't want to change the physical mentality, pace and commitment in England but we can't tolerate tackles like this in football." Despite saying that he felt "really, really angry" with McManaman immediately after the incident, Haïdara maintains he will bear no grudge and will be happy to respond to overtures from the player for a meeting in the next few days. "Now I feel differently and just hope that this will give him a lesson," he said. Haïdara revealed that a series of scans have shown no damage to his knee ligaments or broken bones, and that he has sustained nothing more than severe bruising to his left leg. But he suggested the brutal challenge may have inflicted some short-term psychological damage. "I feel the need to be cautious and don't want to go back too fast," he said. "I will be apprehensive."

    Steven Taylor

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/mar/19/england-steven-taylor-fabio-capello-mistake?CMP=twt_gu Steven Taylor, the Newcastle United centre-back, has revealed that his prospects of an England call-up under Fabio Capello were somewhat remote, after the previous manager thought he was a midfielder. Taylor was selected as a late replacement on Monday evening for Gary Cahill who has a knee injury. Earlier this season, Taylor claimed that Capello made the mistake regarding his position when speaking to Alan Pardew, his club manager. He said: "Last season [Capello] didn't come [to see Newcastle] when we had the best defensive record up to Christmas. The gaffer went to some event and Capello was there and he said: 'You should come up and see Taylor'. And Capello said: 'I'm all right for midfielders'. That did a lot for my confidence, it was almost back to the feeling I had when we got relegated." After being chosen to replace Cahill, Taylor said: "I am so happy to have received a call-up to the full squad. It's every player's ambition to represent their country." While Cahill is ruled out of Friday's match with San Marino, he will be reassessed ahead of the second and more vital World Cup qualifier against Montenegro in Podgorica on Tuesday. An FA statement said: "Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifier with San Marino on Friday evening. Cahill was assessed by England medical staff on Monday and will not be able to take part in the match, but will be reassessed later in the week with a view to the second of England's two qualifiers, against Montenegro on Tuesday."
  13. http://www.football-italia.net/32088/u21-santon-injury-concern U21: Santon injury concern By Football Italia staff Davide Santon is in doubt for Italy’s Under-21 games against Russia and Ukraine after he pulled up with a muscular problem. The Newcastle United full-back interrupted today’s training session early due to pain in his left thigh and will undergo tests tomorrow. If they come back with concerns, then Santon may well be sent back to Newcastle early for treatment. The Azzurrini play two friendlies in the lead-up to the European Under-21 Championship in June. They take on Russia in Cittadella on Friday March 22, then welcome Ukraine to Bassano del Grappa on Monday March 25.
