  1. Surely our next manager is gonna be french too no?  Hope Ashley has told Carr to scout potential new managers as well as players.

I hope not. French managers seem to make a habit of falling out with French Players. Barring Wenger of course.

  2. Probably won't need a manager soon. The starting 11 more or less picks itself. Pards doesn't speak French and I assume the French lads will just talk to each other about what to do.

    He really doesn't speak French?

Non. He's still struggling to put the finishing touches to his English.

  4. I worry that people will assume that he is the silver bullet for us and be disappointed that a right back can't turn our season fully around. It'll need more than him to get us out of this s*** we are in.

Quite. In the same way the sum of our problems this season are not Danny Simpson.

  5. From skysports' "10 to Avoid":

    Loic Remy:

Considering Remy's form for Marseille this season, both QPR and Newcastle would be taking a huge gamble if they splurged a reported £11million on the striker. The France international has scored just three times in 19 appearances this term and his record of 12 strikes in 29 Ligue 1 games last year does little to justify his price tag. That Remy was also diagnosed with a heart problem during his Marseille medical in 2010 may also be a consideration, but more pressing is the lack of evidence to suggest the forward could spark an immediate revival for either of the Premier League strugglers.

    Whats the heartproblem? Anything serious?

Apparently its no obstacle to his footballing career with heart specialists saying there is no reason why he can't practice sport at a high level. Sky sports 10 to avoid probably would have included Ben Arfa once upon a time.

  6. Why do we have to 'ready offers'? Why can't we just make one? Not tomorrow, or the day after - just do it now.

Could simply be because he is in Morocco.

  7. Obviously we need the policy to be flexible so that we can sign Ba's replacement because we can't make do with Cisse, Shola and no f***er else.

However, beyond that I'd be happy for us to sign a relatively young, talented CB to replace Williamson rather than another purple, similar to when we signed Bassong. He was originally bought as backup but turned out to be s*** hot.

If our scouting network is that good why haven't we unearthed another Bassong or two?  There must be plenty of them out there.

IIRC Bassong was signed after being offered to Keegan and doing a trial here. Think he was a KK signing. You're right though.

  8. I don't think Pardew has much of a say at all when it comes to transfers. He and the board discuss which areas of the team need strengthening, then it's down to the board and scouting department to find suitable players, is the impression I get. There's no evidence of Pardew having input over and above "We need a centre half".

Nothing wrong with that whatsoever. The Italians think we're mental for routinely letting men who might not be at the club for longer than a season take control of decisions that will affect it financially and in other ways for years to come. Hence they tend to describe the manager more as the 'head coach'. If you think Pardew has to work under daft constraints (though trying to be profitable while bringing about a steady improvement in the quality of the squad isn't such a daft constraint) then what about Ancelotti under Berlusconi? I don't see that Ashley is so bad to work under, unless by bad you just mean unwilling to spunk loads more of his own money.

I agree with the sentiment you express here. With regards to the bolded part Keegan said after he left that there were big problems with Trust. That Ashley and Llambias would give you an assurance and then do the complete opposite. If that's still the case then it makes it very difficult to work for them as ultimately its the manager who gets the majority of flack.

Again though whatever difficulties (if any) Pardew has encountered working under Mike Ashley do not account for the teams poor performances this season.

  9. Pardew does have a major say though.

On the players we choose to pursue. Not so much on how far we go to pursue them obviously.

I suspect that he also suggests the position of players that we are to recruit.

  10. Hypothetically would people advocate sacking Pardew and appointing A. N. Other (of a decent calibre) if it came at the cost of no new recruits in January?

I have to say I probably would.

  11. Let's hope NUFC's new recruits have something more positive and constructive to contribute than this forum's new recruits.

lets have your views then .......

Given them many a time mate. Suffice to say I'm not exactly known as Ashley's biggest fan on here. However I'm not going to engage in a discussion with you until you've proven to be capable of anything more than pointless and incessant whinging.

For ages now I have bigged Ashley up......but this window will show everyone of his intentions. He had his chance last summer to  build on his success....he didn't dee this.......we had a big chance to show our intentions.....but we didn't. now the club have realised what every fan knew in August.......will they put it right? I know where my money is

The slide this club has gone on since the Summer is inexcusable. It is supreme folly to attribute the majority of it on the inability to add players over the summer. That being said, our current incumbent has shown himself incapable of arresting the slide that the club is on with the players he has at his disposal. The only viable option is for Ashley to provide the funds to strengthen in this window. A failure to do so will be a damning indictment on his tenure and representative of a reckless gamble on our future. The real worry is that investment does not guarantee a halt to our decline.
