I love Howe for what he’s done for the club. He’s massively overachieved in the first 3 and a half seasons but no one is untouchable, certainly not when you look at the trajectory and red flags over the last ~12 months: The tactical rigidity: we must be one of few prem teams to play without a 10 - we don’t even have the profile in the team to use it as an option either. The 433 we’ve played over the last 4 seasons has become stale and so easy to play against. The 451 out of possession has glaring issues between defence/midfield and Eddie seems too stubborn to adapt. Watching Man City press with a front 4 against Arsenal in the cup final was quite depressing knowing we’d never be so tactically fluid. Recruitment: I find it pretty remarkable that his nephew just so happens to be an industry leading recruiter who works at the same club, directly with/for the first team. Crazy coincidence. Even crazier that he also worked with Eddie at Bournemouth… I’m sure he is best in class, though. I think it’s clear Howe has far too much control in this area of the club. We’ve definitely signed more hits than misses, but this last summer was horrendous on so many levels and someone needs to take accountability. Why sign a technical number 9 for £60m+ who clearly doesn’t have much pace to play in a side that only wants to play in behind? Then there’s the £110m spent on Wissa and Elanga… and another questionable £40m on a squad player in Ramsey. All round terrible squad planning and pedalling the PSR line is offensive when Eddie has clearly insisted on signing premium PL players. Then I think there’s the question of how we go to that next level of competing consistently for CL - regardless of whether we performed well this season - would Howe ever be the right person for that job? Looking at how we play, Howe’s very much relied on physicality throughout his time. However, when you look across Europe, the very best sides are still extremely technical. All the issues then sort of merge into one - the tactics, the recruitment, the loyalty/reliance on players like Trippier, Burn, Gordon, Murphy, Joelinton - all of whom I think have solid attributes but nowhere near the ability we need to evolve to the next level. In such a pivotal summer, we’ve ended up signing another round of bang average athletes. All of which leads back to Howe - a manager with a pedigree of Bournemouth/Burnley. An expert in over delivering with an average side but is he the man to turn us into a possession based, technical side, good enough to consistently compete in the CL? This season shows he’s probably not, which is a shame.

Listening to that, I think Howe will create one of the best siege mentalities this season. Can’t think of many positives to losing Isak but I back Howe to get the most out of the situation.

So pleased for him. Imagine being in his position, treated like shit by Pardew, handed over to Hull to be managed by Steve Bruce and then couldn't even play for Nice until the following season. To now land a contract at one of the world's biggest clubs is a massive achievement and he fully deserves it! Buzzing for him.

Urgh. Last week Colo was odds on to be the manager so I don't think anyone really has a clue. It doesn't look great though. Carver as manager for one more game is bad enough - if he is here until the end of the season I seriously worry about our PL status

This. Absolutely dreadful. Gave him the benefit of the doubt after the first couple of games but he really is shit. Would play Woodman despite his age; can't be any worse surely?

Was like Pardew hadn't even left. Great attacking start to the game but terrible decision making lead to the shit result. The substitutions were terrible. When Taylor got injured, they should have moved Dummett into CB and put on Haidara LB. Gouffran should have come off for Cabella when Burnley got back into the game whilst we were leading 2-1. We had 5 defenders and a holding CM on against Burnley at home. Awful!

Would be so fitting to be confirmed on page 666.

In an ideal world, I'd have De Boer. However, realistically, I'd be okay with Beardsley until the end of the season and then find a permanent manager in the summer. Wouldn't want Sherwood/Pulis anywhere near us (although they are both better than Pardew) but I have a horrible feeling that we'll end up with Pulis

Taking a breather from this crazy night to look back on the year we've had with Pardew... it really frustrates me how a lot of pundits/the media/Stan Collymore/Umar are still blind to the fact that Pardew has been nothing but s****. Probably a Giggs but I made a table for the Premier League games played in the 2014 calendar year (aside from the Liverpool - Swansea game tomorrow) and I've excluded the relegated/promoted teams as they would have only played 19 games: http://i.imgur.com/amVz5Gj.png - 12 wins in 12 months (albeit some non-playing months but still) - 1 of 4 teams that are in the single digits for clean sheets (9) - The team with the highest "failed to score stat". Nearly HALF of our games is truly scary stat. - Worst goal difference in the league (-27) - Most goals conceded (63) Crystal Palace have 3 more points than us in 2014 yet we're the ones being called fickle for wanting rid of Pardew!
