  1. When that second goal went in a lot of people around me just lost their shit. Normally sensible people as well, were properly screaming at the players. Was completely bizarre and I'm still not sure why. Third day on the drink in a row? Tantrum because of who the opposition were?
  2. It's a wider cultural problem and it stinks.
  3. Think it's mad there's no mechanism for the on-field ref himself to say "lads, I'm not sure on this big call, I need to look at it again before I make my mind up on whether it's a penalty or not, get the VT lined up" I'd give the ref that option before giving it to the benches.
  4. Lack of composure at key times, there's definitely lessons to be learned there. Fair play to Liverpool, they dug in after the red card and made it hard for us then gave us a lesson in finishing. Thought they were going to self-destruct and lose their rag at one point but they didn't. Thought their number 8 in particular had a good game. Sometimes we need to learn to just see games out and take a point and injury time today was a glaring example. They've come back into the game, we're struggling to break them down, just make sure we don't do anything daft and get beat. So fucking infuriating.
  5. Home atmosphere was up and down today. I'd give it 7 out of 10. But until they scored their fans were completely silent. Worst I've seen at SJP for years. I'd be fucking embarrassed if our away end turned up and carried on like that.
  6. I'm happy for the club's association with the Saudis to be used to shine as much light as possible on atrocities like the one linked above. End of the day, if they don't want to be criticised for these things then they should stop fucking doing them!!! Where I draw the line is when folk (often disingenuously) try to hold NUFC responsible for their actions. This isn't an equal or reciprocal partnership- PIF owns NUFC and is largely (at least 80% anyway) responsible for the performance of the football club. NUFC does not own any of PIF and has no influence over or responsibility for the actions of PIF or those who control it (ie MB.) I'm not saying that's what you were getting at, but I think it's something that in general gets lost sight of in all the discourse surrounding their ownership of the club.
  7. I think it's fair to say there's a wide range of opinion across the fanbase. On this topic and on pretty much everything to do with the club. This is not peculiar because we're talking about a large group of people with a range of backgrounds, values and life experiences, but it's also why I tune out everytime I hear some bellwipe like Harry Redknapp start with "Newcastle fans all think..."
  8. Would be a brilliant signing. Don't understand why Chelsea would sell to us though.
  9. Madley is out of his depth. He was a fucking idiot yesterday, but at least he was a fucking idiot for both teams. The one thing I thought he got right was the yellow for Martinez- Miggy was running towards the corner flag as opposed to the goal so for me it's not a clear goalscoring opportunity (subjective, I know.)
  10. Normally I stick up for the atmosphere as where I am in the gallowgate near strawberry corner is pretty good. But I've got to agree with you here, the atmosphere for the semi-final was poor. Too many nerves perhaps.
  11. I dunno, I think there could be some mileage in this as an idea. I mean although there is no conviction, the recordings are in the public domain. Everyone knows he did it. The lad has to do something with his life going forwards, his profession is football so that would seem the obvious plan. But on the other hand it doesn't seem right to a lot of people that he just goes back to reap the benefits of such a lucrative profession as if nothing had happened. So if he's genuinely contrite for his actions (a big "if" in fairness) and wants to make amends then some sort of rehab to prevent a repeat would seem appropriate. Then maybe he could he do something to help the victims of domestic abuse, set up a foundation or commit to go around schools talking about the consequences of domestic violence or something, I dunno. I guess some might see that as hypocritical given what he's done but if there's an opportunity for him to use his profile to do some good out of it then he should be looking to take it. Tbh it's something football as an industry should be doing more on in wider society- the figures for domestic violence arrests always spike on the days when/immediately after England get knocked out of a tournament.
  12. We need to be clocking that high line and working on a set piece to exploit it next month
  13. Can see Joelinton getting sent off before he leaves America like. It's a pre-season kickabout you mad bastard. Calm down!!
  14. Glasgow man. What a place and what a great bunch of people live there! Great trip.
  15. It's better than silence I suppose but I'm not a big fan of the drum and waving flags while the match is on would probably annoy me. Rangers fan on the train this morning was saying it was the first time they'd ever done itand it was a bit of a trial. He seemed sure that a lot of people had complained about it, although I suspect he might have been projecting his own opinion onto others. He was a bit of a tit like.
  16. Honestly can't think of a god thing to say about him. Other than the old cliche Mike Dean has gone. Good.
  17. Aye, was gonna say. As an Ipswich fan one of his last trips here could have been when Dorty Nellies was still open near the station.
  18. Me and my mate said exactly this more or less word-for-word after the Leeds game. I struggle to see him as a winger because he doesn't beat a man and nor is he blessed with the crossing ability of a Solano or a Robert. But I can see him rotating with Tonali or Longstaff as a right-sided number 8 and doing very well.
  19. Late 90's I saw a disabled child in Maccies on Northumberland Street being wheeled around in a top with FTM on the back which seemed a bit provocative at the time, but other than that it's always just seemed normal to see their tops in Newcastle. Tbh I prefer it to seeing Man Utd, Chelsea tops etc.
  20. There's clearly some nuance that I'm not picking up on in this matter. For a UK context I'm old enough to remember when there were (a very small minority of) England fans that didn't count goals scored by John Barnes for example. So they would say, for example, the result was a 2-1 defeat when we had drawn 2-2. Whilst an extreme example, this is the kind of attitude that I understand Kaka is referring to. We didn't say that there was some subtlety to what they were saying, we just called them fucking racists because that's what they were.
  21. He's suggested that most England fans don't want black players playing for the country. I'm not sure how much more explicitly you could get to calling people racist. "I'm not racist, but I don't like it when black players play for England" sounds like a parody RTG post.
  22. That Owen one is one of the greatest regrets of my life. Had arrived at a hostel in Las Vegas lets say "mildly refreshed" and full of bravado. Decided to join a group playing pool and got cracking on with an extremely fit Brazilian lass that someone like me had no right cracking onto. Got cuddling with her as the night wore on. Then my phone goes with a random text from the Ronnie Gill just stating "TOON SIGN OWEN." Adrenaline kicked in, couldn’t get her off me lap quick enough, jumped up like someone had stuck a hot poker up my arse and raced through to the computer room to log on and find out if it was true. Came back 20 minutes later to find her chatting to some aussie lad. She turned around, scowled at me and some lad says "think you've missed your chance there. running off like that dude." Whenever I was in that hostel over the next few days I had to watch the lass with this aussie kissing and canoodling with each other. Wouldn't have minded but as we all know the transfer was a fucking disaster and all.
  23. Same tbh. Just got to trust that the people in place at the club now are proper people doing a proper job as opposed to the fucking chancers that ignored the massive red flags and lured Thauvin in.
