Whilst I agree with this point in principal I don't know if a tournament with as few games as this gives you that luxury. Foden/TAA were just so obviously not working I don't see what he intends to find out by trying it again.

I mean most managers will go into a game with a reasonable idea of what subs they're planning to make it things are going to plan. But Eddie can make changes on the hoof if he needs to. Let's not compare him to Southgate.

See even then I'm not convinced. I think we flattered to deceive a little bit. Apart from the goal (which was a very good goal) we didn't really create much. I'm all for looking for the positives, growing into the tournament, etc, but we go through this every time with Southgate. We look underwhelming in the groups, expect better in the knockouts, and then just lose to the first sign of decent opposition. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see why this time is going to be any different.

If you've got two players who are arguably your best players but they share a position then I think one needs to make way for the other. Especially when the alternative clearly isn't working. Southgate seems unable to make that call. And the problems with the team were obvious before kick off and it borne out pretty much exactly as we expected. I thought that was a very poor display. We barely threatened then apart from 2 chances with some of the most exciting attacking talent we've had available in a long time. I mean yes we won so how poor could it be really? But he's not been able to get the best out of these players for a while now and it doesn't bode well for the rest of the tournament.
