As it currently stands, we've only signed 1 outfield player who wasn't here last season who is a defender (a very good one admittedly). Despite that our most pressing issue is the attack and are yet to make any kind of concrete offer for any kind of attacker.

Good read, that. Always thought he would've been one of those in the squad who hated Bruce, given how poor he was under him. Hopefully this season he can be much better than the last 3 and play his best football.

"I'm from Wallsend, he's from Wallsend"

Lost all credibility and likability (if he had any in the first place) when he defended Bruce to the hilt solely on the basis that he was his mate, not on the fact that he was a fucking shit manager doing a dreadful job. Tried every excuse in the book for him and has since just dug his heels in; was a part in the Bruce gaslighting attempt of the fans and has maintained the same condescending, cuntish tone when putting news out almost 12 months after he's gone. "They're not spending that much, there's a budget, wake up, they are interested in Jack Harrison, it's a fact, £50m budget, this is how it is, they're skint, FFP," etc. Like fuck off you odious cunt. You have as much knowledge about what's going as you do hair on your head.

It's a mistake (an enormous one, imo) if we don't sign a striker or at least another attacker of some description. We have known even during that great run in the second half of last season that we needed a striker in this window. To not sign one and to be relying on Wilson's fitness, which is self harm, makes it a bit of a failure iyam. I have faith we'll eventually get one though, before anyone tells me to remember Ashley.

Wonder if there's similar mackem outcry at Manchester City shirts at pride given the UAE imprison LGBTs. But nah, in fact they celebrated their title win in 2012. Its just because its us.

If you find a gem which is never guaranteed from abroad, yeah. But £25m gets you Chris Wood or Harry Winks these days, the wide equivalent is no different. Its an insufficient amount to do business in the PL, assuming that's the market we're looking at for whatever reason given the lack of real value. Am aware this is mainly regarding a wide player but also if we really are gambling on Wilson staying fit then that's proper shite. Needless.

Bruno and Targett came out of the blue in January iirc, the first we heard about them was a bid being made. All this 'weighing up', 'monitoring', 'preparing bid' is all nonsense to get emotional football fans like us clicking and reading about it. I doubt any journos whether that's Wilson, Edwards insisting on a budget, Hope or anyone like that have a clue. It's no coincidence to me that the Athletic journos have been really quiet this window. But to entertain that horseshit for a second longer that it needs to be, insisting on not paying over £25m will get you nowhere in the PL and will likely not upgrade what you have unless you find an absolute gem.
-
Go abroad, then. Never getting any deals in the PL for that. He seems a shocking journo btw. Sensationalist tripe is mostly what I've seen.
-
15:28 onwards, he wanted Bruce out before we sacked him. my fucking GOAT
-
But in Willock's 14 games he literally matched one of our PL goalscoring records for consecutive games scored in and nigh on singlehandedly kept us up with it. Longstaff since getting injured away at West Ham in March 2019 has shown absolutely nothing to me so I can be optimistic about him being a part of a midfield that runs PL matches, even against the so called lesser sides. He's played well in 4 games imo this season; Man Utd (h), Leeds (a), Arsenal (h), Burnley (a). Willock matched one of our goal scoring records. There's much more to be optimistic about with Willock than Longstaff.
-
Aye. People will be clinging onto those 8 games Longstaff had in 2018-19 when he's like 29.
-
Under Howe he's been as motivated as ever and has played his most consistent football at NUFC without being sparkling iyam. He never was like but I still think he'll have parts to play this season. If he can hit the form of the latter part of 17-18 with the consistency of last season I'm sure he will but from this coming season moving forward, especially next season, he should be a rotational cup player at best if not moved on.

Pre-season (2025/26) - NUFC to play Espanyol on 08/08/25
HaydnNUFC replied to bowlingcrofty's topic in Football
Unsure about trying him in CM. Bruce tried him there earlier last season in that brainless 5-3-1-1. Obviously Howe is lightyears clear but unless we play him as a #10 I can't see where he fits in. His pressing ability, workrate, fitness and pace are all assets but his contributions on the park, certainly over the last 2 seasons, don't warrant him being involved in the first XI too often imo. -
Convinced one of these new posters that joined or started posting a lot more from after the takeover is the second coming of Penn/IMTTS, like.
-
I see you're being a blatant WUM again. Put up these tragic posts about Howe back in January, Then stopped posting after Howe turned it around and only started to post again after the season had ended to spout how we are apparently skint a la your posts today as well as how our signings and reported targets are all naff.
-
Their new winger went off injured today so it'll probably be over £35m. Which to me is over market value.
-
Don't think Lewis will be sold. He was coming into his own a bit in December before his injury.
-
Fernandez, Darlow or Gillespie and one of the wingers? Murphy maybe?
-
And given how much we're struggling to bring just one in (and a striker) I wouldn't have much faith that they'd both be upgrades on ASM or whose already here. But it won't happen. I hope.
-
We need another winger alongside ASM. If he is sold and if we replace him with someone who is hopefully as influential for us as he is we're still going to have Fraser, Almiron or Murphy on the other side. And Wood up front when Wilson inevitably gets injured.
