Thought the same, I was entertained by it for a few minutes. Old school. -
Yeah Watford have been okay since the restart, I wonder if he's committed a sackable offence with that temper of his?
-
I would agree. I can't say I have been impressed with his work going forward, he doesn't seem to like getting into the opposition half much. But he is solid defensively, and he's more comfortable on the ball than Dummett. I don't mind seeing his name on the team sheet as much as I did initially. Watching Yedlin and Lazaro invariably go AWOL when we get done at the back has made me appreciate a defensive full back a bit recently. Rose's defensive work for us has been questionable at best. Dummett is a much better defender.

Cracks in the pleasure dome at Liverpool.

He used to be. He's done nothing in a black and white shirt that Dummett isn't also capable of.

The first pen could be considered soft, but it was still a pen imo. The Watford lad, Femenia maybe, had pretty much lost control of the ball after doing pretty well anyway and it was just braindead & lazy from Ritchie to plow straight into him regardless of the fact contact was minimal (knee to knee iirc). Second was stonewall and equally braindead. I was sitting counting, 2-3-4... why are you still holding him? Summed up our performance as lazy today... Almiron, Lascelles & ASM grafted, Dubravka was without fault... but other than those guys we were lazy. I blame Bruce mostly mind as the likes of Fernandez & Manquillo shouldn't have been out there. They've got nothing left in the tank having played pretty much every minute since the restart. Schar should have played CB with M.Longstaff or Bentaleb in CM. -
Average is very kind. He's fucking awful. Him & Ritchie occupying the left flank man... absolutely tragic duo.
-
Agreed, that's a woeful point like Also Willems was fantastic in the games he played for us, but he's had a serious injury and there's surely questions if he'll even be the same player I'm sure he's out until 2021 anyway, don't see why you'd look to sign him until his recovery is complete How? What’s woeful about the idea of signing players who have chemistry? Whether that’s bringing in former team mates or players of the same nationality. Happens all the time.
-
“Just” to keep another player happy is not what I said like. It’s a bonus, and for like £6m... easily worth the risk.
-
Their salient point was he brings experience..... He's been either anonymous or poor every time he's played and offered so little to the team I'd go as far as saying Ritchie & Manquillo are better left backs and they're not even left backs. A proper club, run properly would have had Willems signed already, not only for his quality, but also to keep Saint-Maximin sweet as the two seemed to bond very nicely both on & off the field.

Was watching one of the Newcastle youtube channels the other day and there was agreement amongst them that they would rather keep Rose than bring in a 'crocked' Willems. Couldn't believe my ears. They are absolutely worlds apart. Willems is so superior in every way, this guy isn't any better than Dummett in my view.

Yes, because if we played with a bit more confidence and had a better intent to attack games, Schar would be paired with Fernandez or Lascelles for a finely balanced partnership. As things stand were left defending doggedly 95% of the time and Fernandez & Lascelles have shone. Clark before that, and Bruce hasn’t found a place for Schar as a result. I believe there’s a case to say Schar is our best CB based on last season when he actually played.

3.5m let's not forget. One of our best signings in years. How I long to see that 'pandemonium' hand gesture as he ran off after one of the cleanest strikes you will see a defender hit v Burnley next season. He'd be one of few I reckon could step up and perform in a proper footballing team under better owners and a better manager.
