  1. Maybe he can give Sven his ‘Larn yersel Geordie’ book and tell him to force a transfer …

I get the impression Balague is the only person who likes Balague

Tbf we still don’t know what they’re going to spend etc. And so far they’ve been … let’s call it haggling, rather than ‘cheap out’.

Sorry, wasn’t looking to be a smart arse - I would love to play poker with some of our new owners one day mind

It’s an interesting approach - get yourself a perfidious reputation and still sign no-one. Obviously we’re getting stiffed - but then, why should anyone do us a favour? Usually best not to approach a window desperate and telling the world you have ‘deep pockets’ - the first couldn’t be helped; the second could. Looks to me like at some point they’re going to have to shit or get off the pot. No-one wants us to pay over the odds - but this is a bastard of a time to need players, and COVID appears to be making clubs less keen to let anyone go.

Yeah, I do think this was the thinking behind the attempt at a Botman / Carlos pairing. Both complementing and offering what the other lacks. The main thing for me is that he's clearly better than what is there already. That is the only litmus test at present. I'm not worried if he isn't a world-beater; he just needs to be a reasonably capable top-flight centre half. I think he is that at least - so he'll dee for me. The transfer request also makes the reports of Sevilla looking for double-money even more ludicrous. Not going to happen - and we should remember that the Spanish football press (and boards / owners) are no less full of shit than those in England. I'm pretty confident this will now get done at roughly the fee that has been reported elsewhere (c.30m)

I love how even the most tenuous of links to oil money gets them excited, and they quickly forget their 'principled' take on events at NUFC. Favourite comment 'I hope not as it would make a lot of us hypocrites'. Yes, yes it would (though the poster has nowt to fear on that front - nothing is going to happen).
  12. Beardsley did more than a job - even on his return he was the best player I've ever seen at Newcastle - but he was also a better footballer and a much, much more professional athlete than HBA. The two are not really comparable - Beardsley wasn't just a mercurial talent; he was the hardest working player on the pitch. I'm convinced he'd have won the Balon D'Or and European Cups if English teams weren't banned from European competition during his peak years.
  13. I've decided to forget the half-arsed performances, the lack of professionalism, that final derby game where if he stood on the halfway line scratching his bollocks for 90 mins he'd still have put in more effort. He now sits in a warm, happy place in my memory banks. Along with 'first half of the season' Rob Lee, Papiss's first 14 games, and Alex Mathie's volley. My mind shall not compute anything else about them
  14. One of the most gifted players I've ever seen in a B&W strip - he really should played at a much higher level than he ended up. He let himself down in his career - it wasn't just down to wankers like Pardew and Bruce - but I'd take him on a six month contract. He'd give the crowd a boost, and besides - if Hatem waddled onto the pitch ten stone overweight, hobbling on a gammy knee and chain-smoking, he'd likely still be more of a goal threat than the likes of Almiron.

Galileo Galilei is believed to have disproved Aristotle’s Theory of Gravity by dropping two weights of different mass off the leaning tower of Pisa, showing that speed of descent was independent of mass. It is then a shame that he didn’t try that experiment from the top of Penshaw Monument, because he’d have found he was wrong - a penny takes a lot longer to drop on Wearside than anywhere else on Earth … https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/is-kld-just-a-farce.1569334/
  16. He’s played the equivalent of one season in total over the last three years, and has been out scored by Joelinton in that period. He’s playing for Belgian by reputation, not form. I’ll have to disagree - though we’ll never find out which of us is right in all likelihood
  17. He is. Blinding player when fit mind.
  18. If the Hazard link is true - and that’s a massive ‘if’ - it is precisely the wrong type of player to target in the highly unlikely event he’d join. He’s spent the last couple of years convincing everyone he can’t be arsed to play for Real Madrid - so I can’t picture him getting gee’d up trying to save our arses. He’s the type of stupid trophy signing rich new owners often make when they need a ‘statement’. And the type who is still on the books three years later, having played a dozen games and continuing to cost £200k per week. I doubt it’s true in any case.

Zero chance Lascelles is dropped unless we get two CBs in this window. Howe won’t drop him
  20. Fuck me. Posh boy playing at superfan and doesn’t know his arse from his elbow in terms of what he’s watching.
  21. Lazy journalists love ‘super fans’. Easier than canvassing supporters. Ring up a fanzine editor, let them rabbit for a couple of minutes, 1,000 words and jobs a good ‘un Most sports journalism is a joke tbf.
  22. Personally, I think we need to be on better footing with this stuff - some of us do actually give a shite about ‘human rights stuff’. As a human, human rights strike me as important. It is actually possible to care about other human beings - some of the shite levelled at Amnesty by some of our support was nothing short of disgraceful. I’m not at all happy with who now owns our club. Personally, I despise despotic govts and would happily see the cunts in charge in Saudi Arabia overthrown and replaced by a secular democracy. Nothing would make me happier than football clubs not being owned by the dregs of humanity. But that would need to be applied across the board - not just to NUFC. I don’t see the need for us to be singled out. English association football survived for well over a century without gangster oligarch, despots and Wall Street scum. It would comfortably survive if they were all kicked out. Don’t get me wrong though, I’m under no illusions that the entire population of Sunderland suddenly became HR activists overnight. Plenty of them would have grabbed this with both hands. edit: I don’t give a shite what others think about NUFC. Wouldn’t waste my time thinking about it.

To be fair, I wasn’t actually angry - was intended to be jokey. But reading it back, it clearly doesn’t read that way That said, I do find the ‘I haven’t seen him play much but here’s my opinion anyway’ stuff tiresome

'Brazil Carnival Sex Pele' is a cracking centre half mind; though he needs to start going by one name like other Brazilian players
