https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sport/19669394.newcastle-interested-marc-overmars-erik-ten-hag/ Having interviewed former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca last week, Amanda Staveley and her advisors are hoping to complete their recruitment process ahead of Saturday’s home game with Chelsea. Graeme Jones, whose first game as interim manager ended in a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at the weekend, has already been told he will be in charge of this weekend’s meeting with the league leaders, but Newcastle’s ownership group would like to have Steve Bruce’s permanent successor in place for the following weekend’s trip to Brighton. Fonseca, who has confirmed his desire to take charge of the Magpies, is regarded as an extremely strong candidate, although other contenders remain in the frame. Belgium boss Roberto Martinez is known to have his supporters on Tyneside, while Staveley and her fellow director, Jamie Reuben, are also understood to be keen to speak to Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, who has refused to rule out a move away from Ibrox, and former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre.

Can't remember if I posted it on Thursday but had a look back and The Times (Martin Hardy) wrote about Overmars https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/newcastle-eye-ajaxs-marc-overmars-as-director-of-football-5tt37rdw9 It is thought the 48-year-old is open to the possibility of moving to Newcastle, who now have the richest owners in world football after their Saudi Arabia-financed takeover two weeks ago. Overmars took over as director of football at Ajax in 2012. Since then the club have won four league titles, two Dutch Cups and reached the semi-final of the Champions League in 2019. The squad Overmars was key to creating, however, was quickly dismantled, with Matthijs de Ligt joining Juventus for £63 million and Frenkie de Jong joining Barcelona for the same fee in the summer of 2019. Overmars is known to have a strong working relationship with those at boardroom level at Newcastle and is now a leading candidate for the position at a club that is 80 per cent owned by Saudi Arabia’s public investment fund (PIF). That financial clout is thought to appeal to Overmars, who has seen teams broken up as they approached their prime. Newcastle’s board of directors, which consists of Amanda Staveley, Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Jamie Reuben, are still working through a detailed process before making major appointments at the club. They interviewed Paulo Fonseca on Wednesday for the manager’s job through a Zoom call but Graeme Jones, formerly the assistant manager, will manage the team on Saturday against Crystal Palace after the sacking of Steve Bruce on Wednesday.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10124007/Newcastle-takeover-18-Premier-League-clubs-one-month-ban-sponsorship-related-parties.html - follow-up on the related-party sponsorship month ban The Premier League is set for a bitter battle among leading clubs next month over the Saudi takeover at Newcastle United as a raft of clubs seek to outlaw sponsorship deals from friendly businesses associated with competitor clubs. Newcastle director Amanda Staveley is expected to attend the shareholders meeting next month to respond in person to Monday’s emergency Premier League meeting, which led to a vote being taken for a one-month moratorium of any club concluding sponsorship deals with related parties. It is likely that the committee will study the suggestions of Project Big Picture, which proposed that related-party sponsorship deals were limited to £50million. It has been suggested by sources close to the talks that the Premier League will establish a permanent independent body to assess fair value for all new deals, to prevent Newcastle claiming their shirt sponsors, estimated at £5m a year, is suddenly worth £25m. Yet sources at the club have pointed out that any future sponsorship deals would be pricing in the expected success of the club two or three years down the line and will be worth more than current deals. Given that such rules will not be ready for next month’s Premier League shareholders meetings, it is expected that the moratorium will be extended. Newcastle’s new owners are firmly of the view that such a move would be akin to a cartel and as such illegal. But they also believe the majority of clubs will come round to the view that Saudi investment will boost the Premier League’s value.

Could always look back at what managers have said - Bruce for example though it's best to leave him and that thread at the bottom of the forum - before we approached him No surprise, he was on holiday... this time in pre-season so maybe slightly more tolerable "Maybe because I'm from Newcastle [is why my name has been mentioned]," he told Radio Sheffield. "But no, I've been on holiday. I never take any notice of all that sort of speculation or tittle-tattle because the way the newspapers are today, no disrespect, I think there have been 150 managers associated with Newcastle. I would suppose I'm going to be one of them."

Can get what he said https://sportwitness.co.uk/eric-ten-hag-directly-addresses-newcastle-united-rumours-following-marc-overmars-reports/ Relayed by SoccerNews.nl, he said: “The positional of technical director is one for the long term. Marc set things in motion a few years ago. He did this from a certain vision, he introduced structure and managed. It’s started to grow and I don’t think the process is over yet. “Marc hasn’t informed me [about the Newcastle interest]. I don’t think he’s withholding anything from me either. I’m not working on [going to Newcastle] and now is definitely not the time”.

"Sporting Director" as per his Linkedin https://uk.linkedin.com/in/michael-edwards-47889b17

Also the shortlist "They are understood to be Lille’s Portuguese sporting director Luis Campos, who is credited with developing the talents of Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho and Anthony Martial at Monaco, and Liverpool’s highly-respected Michael Edwards, who is set to leave Anfield at the end of the season."

Maybe ten Hag's that surprise name Ando was on about - but Mirror did say Fonseca was set for the job yesterday! Still time to change I guess

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/marc-overmars-opens-talks-newcastle-25282984 - posted 9pm Marc Overmars has opened talks with Newcastle about becoming the Toon’s director of football. Mirror Sport understands that the Tyneside club’s new Saudi owners have made contact with the 48-year-old former Arsenal winger, who has developed a reputation for identifying, recruiting and developing world-class talent at Ajax over the last nine years. Two intermediaries working on behalf of Newcastle have sounded out Overmars - and the Dutchman is interested in moving to St James’ Park after being told he will be given the resources to awaken the sleeping giant. And, according to sources in Holland, Overmars wants to bring Ajax coach Erik ten Hag with him.

Few hours old now https://www.90min.com/posts/frank-lampard-not-in-contention-newcastle-job Exclusive - Frank Lampard has not applied to be the next manager of Newcastle United, 90min understands. It is understood that Newcastle's new owners, led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, had a genuine interest in Lampard and he was encouraged to make a move for the job. Harry Redknapp is one major figure in English football whose opinion on their manager situation has been sought by Newcastle, and it is known that he gave Eddie Howe, one of the main contenders, a glowing reference. Redknapp was also asked about his nephew Lampard, and it is no surprise that he was full of praise for him, and that led to some of Newcastle's hierarchy pursuing a move. 90min revealed earlier this week that Newcastle had initially narrowed down their shortlist to Howe, Lucien Favre and Paulo Fonseca - all of whom had interviews in recent days. Former Roma boss Fonseca impressed hugely during his talks, although the club also continued conversations with Howe and Favre and want to get the decision right. Third parties have put forward the likes of Belgium boss Roberto Martinez and Villarreal's Unai Emery - but Newcastle would prefer someone out of work as they would not want to become embroiled in any legal battles.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/newcastle-new-manager-lampard-fonseca-25280445 - posted 22:30 today!! Paulo Fonseca is poised to succeed Steve Bruce as Newcastle boss - with Frank Lampard understood to have pulled out of the running. As first reported by Mirror Football on October 8, Magpies co-owner Amanda Staveley wants to hand a long-term deal to Fonseca worth £6million-a-year - but she had been facing opposition from co-owner Jamie Reuben who wanted Lampard. Bruce’s former assistant Graeme Jones will stay in interim charge for the next two games with discussions between the competing voices ongoing. But Lampard is believed to share the concerns of a string of managers concerned about Newcastle’s prospects of staying in the Premier League. The club are second from bottom and winless after eight games with matches to come against Crystal Palace, Chelsea and in-form Brighton. Fonseca, 48, impressed in his interview with the club with his short and long-term vision for the Magpies along with his teams’ style of play. The former Roma boss is known to be ready to leave his family in Rome to base himself in Newcastle and commit himself to transforming the second-from-bottom club’s fortunes. A winner of nine trophies at Shakhtar, Fonseca has inspired Staveley and excited fans with his CV which includes leading Pacos de Ferreira to third in the Portuguese top flight, meaning they qualified for their first ever Champions League.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/oct/22/rafael-benitez-demands-improvement-at-everton-to-reflect-money-invested Rafael Benítez has said he wants improvement from every department at Everton because the club should “be in a much better position” with the money they have spent. Benítez started an analysis of all departments on his appointment in June and has demanded wholesale improvement to reflect Farhad Moshiri’s lavish investment. “I have a lot of confidence in my staff but if we have to do something then we will do it,” he said. “One thing I want to be very clear is that I am trying to improve every single department. The fans, the club, the owners who have spent a lot of money, they are desperate to be competitive. “I said in one press conference that eighth [place] means nothing to me and I really mean that. I don’t want to stay here and try to survive. I want to be sure I can improve anything with my experience, my view and my staff.” Benítez’s demand includes recruitment. “The main thing will be the players,” he said. “I am not stupid. It depends on the players what we do on the pitch. I want to be sure every player understands what it means to play for this club and go on the pitch in front of the fans and give everything. They are doing that and I think the fans appreciate the effort of the players. But it has to be the same in each department. “When you see the money spent the club has to be in a much better position. You have to compete against all the teams and it is not straight away that you start winning games and doing everything right. I will be the first to make mistakes, but I have experience and I want to win. How can we win? By improving 5%-10% in each department.”

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10121965/Newcastle-Man-City-fear-rivals-ganging-ownerships.html Newcastle and Manchester City are unhappy at being targeted by the rest of the Premier League after the chief executive of another club this week called for curbs on investment from companies specifically from the Gulf. Sportsmail has learned that the explicit geopolitical reference to funding from the region came in an email sent to the other clubs before the emergency Premier League meeting on Monday, at which they voted to introduce a one-month ban on sponsorship involving related parties. Newcastle voted against the proposal and City abstained, due to doubts over whether the ban is legally enforceable and the speed with which the restriction was being introduced. The tone of some of the other correspondence between the clubs this week also raised eyebrows, particularly the tendency to lump Newcastle and City together due to their ownership groups — Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi respectively.

Kieran Maguire, football finance guy https://www.footballinsider247.com/newcastle-united-can-earn-30m-a-match-as-plan-revealed-maguire/ Maguire claims that one solution is to organise money-spinning pre-season tours of Saudi Arabia “If one route is closed, you try and explore alternative avenues,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams. “If you have to stop, say, a naming rights deal, what do you do next? You could go on a pre-season tour of Saudi Arabia and charge £30m per match. “For every one rule, there is always another loophole. That is one of the first things you learn when you study law to any extent. “I would be looking at alternative ways of funding the club if you can’t do it through the traditional routes, sponsorship and commercial arrangements.”

Just shows the consortium are taking their time, speaking to lots of candidates before settling as many journalists have said. And different names for different consortium members of course - hence Jones having two games at least in charge
