https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/steve-bruce-future-newcastle-united-21906321 That doesn't mean there isn't an acknowledgement at St James' Park of the need for change - or the size of the task ahead. "We know the scale of what needs to be done," was the word from one source. But the rapid pace of change has taken everyone by surprise. The quick call, it seems they think, could be the wrong call. Whether Bruce gets Saturday's trip to Palace or not depends on whether the "right" solution can be found. The manager himself continues to plan for the Selhurst Park trip and early indications are that he may get that game - although that comes with the caveat that things can change. It feels like a difficult compromise, especially given the overwhelming feeling that the manager's time should be up. But the new owners say they're working in a different way - talk of a process dominates conversations - and want the next move to be a good one that will be conducive to long-term success. There is an inkling that they're looking for some of real calibre to lead football operations but mid-season, it's not an easy call.

So many teams gamble promotion in the Championship and fail like Derby, Villa almost went bankrupt because of it, QPR overspent and haven't challenged until quite recently, Sheffield Wednesday were one final away. Would be happy with Howe here, he's an improvement on what we have and can have a tactics discussion to show his knowledge of the sport

However... https://fr.besoccer.com/info/simeone-approche-par-newcastle-1057034 believe this was a 2020 thing not a 2021 "The 'AS' newspaper reports that when the new owners of Newcastle started to move forward on the purchase which is now official, in 2020 they considered signing Diego Simeone as coach and his sporting director Andrea Berta with him. The aim was to replicate the successful model of Atletico Madrid."

He's here because a new manager isn't totally lined up, ready to go. Like when Rafa was all done before we pulled the trigger on McClaren. Far as I'm aware, Bruce is McClaren managing 'until he's told otherwise' and whether that takes a day, a week, a month more... he's not being sacked. Ideally he'd have gone the day after the takeover announcement but for whatever reason PIF especially are taking a lot of time, risking a few games (before an especially bad patch in December when we can't buy our way out of things) for the benefit the future might bring

From Hope's new piece, I linked it in Lascelles too https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10104823/Newcastle-captain-Jamaal-Lascelles-bust-Isaac-Hayden-following-Spurs-defeat.html The search for Bruce's replacement is continuing and Sportsmail reported last week how former Arsenal boss Unai Emery and Belgium manager Roberto Martinez were on the list of targets. We understand Emery has a release clause at Villarreal in the region of £7million, while it would cost less than £2m to release Martinez. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard and former Roma coach Paulo Fonseca are also being considered, while a new name put to us last night was Rudi Garcia, 57, who won the French double with Lille in 2011 and is out of work after leaving Lyon this summer. The consortium want to hire a good coach who can improve players on the training ground, given the immediate need to work with a team who are winless and second bottom in the Premier League.

He's probably just put himself out there and they've picked up on it

https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wayne-rooney-keen-newcastle-united-21897538 Ryder's followed up - he isn't quoting SportBible Former England star Wayne Rooney is understood to be interested in helping Newcastle United on a short-term basis - if Steve Bruce leaves St James’ Park. It is believed that Rooney would look to bring in another Toon favourite with him to Newcastle in Shay Given. Before the takeover Given was offered an interview with the Under-23s working under former team-mate Steve Harper. But Rooney will only step forward to help Newcastle if Bruce goes. Rooney has always spoken highly of Newcastle and told me in the summer: "Players I knew who played for the club always said it was such a fantastic place to play football because the fans are out of this world. "Their away support has to be one of the best as well, they create an incredible atmosphere everywhere they go." Bruce took training today and was not told anything about his future as preparations for the trip to Crystal Palace unfolded. Newcastle players have a routine day off on Tuesday before work resumes for the clash at Selhurst Park.

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/roberto-martinez-steven-gerrard-and-unai-emery-top-of-shortlist-for-newcastle-job-zkjcfpnl0 Newcastle United will this week step up their search for a new manager with Roberto Martínez, Steven Gerrard and Unai Emery emerging as leading contenders to replace Steve Bruce. Bruce had not been expected to retain his position after the takeover and a capacity crowd called for his dismissal. All decisions will be taken by the board of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which owns 80 per cent of the club, with al-Rumayyan the PIF’s governor. It is thought Bruce will stay until a replacement is found. Martínez, the Belgium manager, is out of contract in the summer. He has worked with the Newcastle assistant coach Graeme Jones before and could combine club and country roles. Gerrard, the Rangers manager, who ended Celtic’s run of nine successive league titles last season, has boardroom support. He spoke of the Newcastle situation last week. “I think it’s interesting what’s happening at Newcastle,” he said. “I think if anyone deserves a break it’s the Geordie fans.” The former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, who won the Europa League with Villarreal in May, is also being considered, along with several others.

The consortium, all parties including the Saudis, are witnessing Bruceball for the first and hopefully last time. Hopefully work intensifies on finding the replacement next week
