  1. wotcha peeps, villa fan here. posted last season just before the 1-0 tripper free.kick game. im not confident of us getting anything on sat. saw you vs manure and spuds and your organisation is so good, and defensively very solid. complete contrast to 12months ago. we are, I fear still carrying scars from the sg debacle. we played well verses brentford but I've don't see us consistently produce that. quietly optimistic though about emery's appt, think he has the tactical nous to make us a better team but will take time. im predicting a 2-0 loss.
  2. yea - he is more attacking instinct so can do that more for scotland given mctominay is their main dm. he was poor against leeds and yesterday but had been in good form so its frustrating. SG likes him though so think he basis the mf around him. chukwuemeka is one for the future - he is good but needs to be managed. hasn't set the world alight when he has featured, but he is only just turned 18 and i think will get better. there is a question mark around whether he will sign a prof contract with us or go to one of the big boys as they apparently (european teams too) are sniffing around.
  3. fair comment - think he needs time to stamp his mark on the team - there will be changes in the summer window i reckon and this will give him a chance to implement his style more, with the players he brings in. can see luiz/sanson moving on as they aren't at the level to compete for top 8. we have some good youngsters out on loan too - a lad called archer at preston - wished we had kept him and blooded him in as watkins and ings are not on it and haven't been for ages.
  4. yea there has been more emphasis on our fullbacks since SG came in - mcginn was poor too which has an impact as he has the energy to go track back and get forward.
  5. i think we are crying out for a natural DM - nakamba is our only one and he is out - he has his limitations but is good at breaking up play but we need an upgrade on him. luiz plays in the pivot role but he isn't really that type of player - he isn't physical, and isn't a natural defender. it isn't too difficult for other midfielders to overrun him - he needs time on the ball which is not afforded in the PL. im still happy with what SG is trying to do - this isnt really his squad and is working out who is surplus to requiremetns and who he can rely on. not sure who your next opponents are, but three on the bounce and you are going to be safe.
  6. morning peeps - just wanted to pop on and say congrats for the win, well deserved. we weren't at it - you bossed the first half and we didn't have an answer for it. inconsistency is our nemesis - great going forward on weds night but yesterday we didn't click at all. if you weren't confident of staying up, i think you have to be now - other results went your way (apart from everton) but you don't need to rely on other teams now.
  7. buendia is the doubt for us - he will be a loss.
  8. cheers. will be interesting to see how much the leeds game has taken it out of us - it was frantic, and by the end of the game players were dropping like flies. if leeds can repeat those energy levels against everton this wknd ill be impressed, and they will blow them away. i watched the game on tues - bruno looked decent for the brief time he was on the pitch - he looked just the sort of mf you've needed, and that will help your defence. if his stats/reviews are anything to go by he will help get/keep you higher up the pitch, your defence will have a good shield and not spend so much time repelling attacks. his back heel right in the corner flag was cheeky too!
  9. yea, and that coupled with the atmosphere will make it doubly difficult for us. st maximum was very good vs everton. was gutted we let targett go (regardless of where he went) - he was our most improved player last season and for me is a throwback fullback where defending is his bread and butter. think you saw the benefit of him on tues night - it allowed st max to wreak havoc in the knowledge he had sound cover behind him. don't think you will go down - even before the takeover, i had norwich and watford as two certs for the drop at the start of the season. i wasn;t sure about brighton either but they have had a great season so far and their football is very accomplished - an underrated team/club.
  10. greetings peeps, villa fan in peace here.....but have my tin hat with me just in case (and white hankie)...always had a lot of time for newcastle - one of my best friends is a toon fan (north shields born). im one of those weirdos that reads alot of forums regardless of the team, as always interested in hearing/reading fans opinions from all over on all matters. im nervous for this game tbh - a rocking SJP is a great atmosphere and toon are on a bounce - i watched the everton game and the second half you had fire in the belly and just wanted it more then everton. im a glass half empty type when it comes to us, so really not confident especially after weds night's masterclass on how to hand your opponent goals. usually we aren't that bad defensively (mings always has a clanger in his armour mind), but hoping we can iron that out (missing konsa will be a blow but red card aside, didn't think he covered himself in glory on weds either!). based on the leeds game, id be satisfied with a point - should be a good game though.
