They’re absolute gash these mind

FK given from Bruno’s under hit pass. Joelinton and Bruno are doing what they did vs Villa. Need to wake up a bit
-
Another of those sloppy away starts. Happily these are much shitter than the likes of Villa
-
Funny to think that before the weekend plenty of us were looking at Spurs as the main threat - now suddenly we want them to get a result in their next game! I'm not nervous at this point tbh - just thinking out loud more than owt else. I don't see how we conspire to blow this - we'd need to go on a Steve Bruce-esque losing streak
-
Yeah, I had a look at their remaining fixtures this morning and shivered a little bit. This is the time of the season when sides start rolling over for a belly tickle - I could easily see that lot winning every remaining game. But if we win the next two, it is hard to see us not getting two wins and a draw from the remaining five games.

It is gearing up for a hell of finish for the PO places like. Millwall vs Blackburn and Preston NE vs the mackems final day, as well as Swansea vs West Brom (Swansea could still be in the mix at that point), and Coventry vs the smoggies. If Preston somehow win at Sheff Utd - who in fairness have nothing to play for at this point, given that their win vs WBA guaranteed promotion and they can't catch Burnley mathematically - would mean a Preston win guarantees they finish above at least the mackems. It is in sunderland's hands now, mind - provided they win their games and hope that Millwall don't do the same while scoring four more goals.
-
Yep - win the next two games and we'd only need midtable form in the remaining fixtures to guarantee top four. I think the Everton game is more important than I've seen some other NUFC supporters suggest it is. Win this and I'm really confident we hammer Soton too at the weekend - and then it is pretty much all over bar the shouting.

Everton vs. Newcastle United: 27/04/23 @ 19:45 (BT Sport)

It’s easy to forget that Lascelles is a PL quality CB - albeit not a top one; but I’d happily bet that when he leaves here it’ll be to a PL side (a bottom 7/8 one). He’ll be fine if he plays. -

It's been so long since we were in the CL, I wonder if they still do the 'home teams wear the away kit for kit clashes' thing? Also, we owe these a thumping at some point at Goodison. It's never been a happy hunting ground for us (unlike at home - from memory, our total head-to-head record vs Everton is almost a complete tie, including goals scored vs each other throughout the entire history of games between us - none of that 'post-92' shite). I think a breezy 3-0 will be the order of the day. -
Absolutely fucking shameless.
-
A cup tie would do that without them being needlessly enriched
-
Yep. At this point they’ll be claiming that we aren’t really NUFC anymore so it doesn’t count. NETD is meaningless to me - bald men and combs, etc, traditionally. Even the name stems from their 98/99 season review tape. Weird bastards can’t even have a good season without making it about us.
-
I’m another of the ‘prime Rob Lee still the best in my lifetime’ camp - but that position becomes less tenable with each game. But Lee was a very different player from Bruno. In terms of just phenomenal vision and ability, Gascoigne and Cabaye are the only ones I’ve seen in the same class.

Here’s my favourite on that thread (it’s a long ‘un mind). Goes from ‘gan canny man he’s a Newcastle fan he’s allowed to watch their games’ to ‘if he goes there in the summer it’s just because of the dirty money he’ll get’ at the end. Fucking insane.

Worst PL in years, they’d also beat Spurs easily, spawniest club ever because everyone rolls over for us, Spurs have been paid off with Saudi money. Just the usual perfectly normal conversational hit points of a group of entirely sane people

FAKKIN WANKERS at that I’ve been in enough NUFC away ends watching hammerings - loud defiance is usually the order of the day. Sometimes getting mullered actually brings out a bigger songbook. I understand what the word ‘support’ means. London clubs are always the flakiest in that regard. -
They’re certs for the playoffs for me now. Qualifying, not winning it. Though they would also likely to be starting the playoffs in decent form - it’ll be them or the smoggies coming up.
-
FTFY While it wouldn’t be our first CL rodeo - and with our ownership, it won’t be the last - I would always want a group of big names. It must be depressing to be a Blackburn Rovers supporter, having only experienced one year of it, yet finding themselves in a group with Rosenberg, Spartak Moscow and Legia Warsaw. And finishing bottom of it.

Garang Kuol: Joins Sparta Prague in permanent deal (Official)
TheBrownBottle replied to Johnny's topic in Football
Lots of players play at a WC - the standard isn’t exactly high (and will become even more mediocre with a 48 team tournament). As others have said, he might make it, he might not. Hearts should feel under no obligation to play a player for our benefit - and the lad seems like a good egg, so I doubt it’s attitude which is keeping him on the bench. It’s far more likely that he isn’t at that level yet. It would be good to see him loaned to a lesser European league or the old Fourth Division for the first half of next season. -
100%. I’d fancy us to get some good results in a group of heavy hitters - and they would give some great memories. I want those who haven’t experienced it to experience it - all of my favourite CL memories with NUFC are my favourite live match day experiences. Beating Juve and Barcelona for the glamour, watching us get a great score draw in the San Siro, the wins in Rotterdam and the draw in Zagreb etc - those days live on in the memory. Or in the case of Barcelona, on a VHS tape at my mam and dad’s house - I was zoomed in on the ITV CL highlights swinging my shirt round my head. Happily, I was about six stone lighter than today - nee-one would want to see me do that today …
-
I’m going to say I wouldn’t want to be in pot 3 - I’d want as many big clubs as possible. If NUFC qualify next year it will be as much about enjoying being back with the big boys well ahead of schedule - we’re still a few years away from any expectation of doing much in the competition
-
I’m letting myself think about a European Cup return for the first time in decades now. Geet excited. Three more wins nails it for me - 68 points plus any draws and we’re not getting caught. I can’t see any of the teams below us getting a perfect finish to the season - and they’re all playing each other anyway - and other than Liverpool, our GD is effectively worth another point. If the results all go our way, this could all be over bar the shouting by this time next week - we play another two times by then.
