I get that but I’m sure it was Ashworth who said there was different funds for different groups of players.
-
I’m not sure why people are down on Chalobah, if he was in Ligue 1 playing for someone like Rennes last season he would have been like prime Costacurta.
-
I think the difference is that Brighton have invested in that area on players where as we have only really signed Minteh for any sort of transfer fee, who is then loaned out to develop to either come back in at a later date or not. That doesn’t mean the Irish lads or Kuol won’t make it but the idea behind Ashworth was copying Brighton to some extent, acknowledging that we can’t keep going out and buying ready made star players window after window. I’m surprised at how little we have invested so far in development players to go out on loan.

We have boosted the youth ranks but I don’t think we have done it like was expected when Ashworth came on board, Minteh is the only one that we have spent any sort of decent money on for a youth player. I don’t include Ashby in that group. It probably seems worse in that we have been linked with a few South Americans over a number of months that we have reportedly been watching yet they end up at Man City and Chelsea out of the blue.

It wouldn’t take Chalobah long before he replaced Schar as first choice, he has a high level reading of the game mixed with pace so he has a lot of the attributes desired to balance us out at the back. Plus he has Premier League and Champions League experience. What he hasn’t got is the range of passing that Schar has but I’m wondering if Howe will see beyond that since we could have Bruno and Tonali who can spread the ball about. I would be happy with him signing.

Joelinton and Bruno were really impressive today.

Leeds will win this.

Spurs are hoping that Kane will sign a new contract as he doesn’t want to be seen as a bad guy with the fans, I would say there is a good chance he does as well if they don’t sell him this summer.

Leicester in front

Great save to stop it from being 2-0.

Coventry 1-0 up

What was that from Simms.?

You can pinpoint the interview after the Chelsea game where he acknowledged his issues with getting up to speed as what seems like a turning point in his Newcastle career. Opinions definitely softened on him as a person at that point and to be fair to him he said he was going to come back ready to go and he has done that. I can see him being someone that Howe accommodates in to the team if he’s on form, which could be down either wing or even in the middle.
-
Nobody is being impatient with him.
-
He didn’t look out of place in our back line so it will be interesting to see how we plan on developing him.
-
I didn’t see it like that and others didn’t either, we are all entitled to our opinions. Just to reiterate that we all want him to do well before people are accused of having a vendetta against him or something.
-
Quite a few people were commenting on his performance in the match thread. We all want him to do well but we should also be able to call out a poor performance when we see it.
-
I thought he was quite poor today and his passing was sloppy, he doesn’t seem to have much of an understanding with his team mates either but I’m sure that will come. I think Howe might phase him in over a longer period unless we have an injury crisis.
-
I think it’s too early to say if Howe has the ability to bring youngsters though considering Anderson has only made 3 league starts, I hope he can since the investments we are making in the youth team.
-
We are starting to see what an intelligent player he is with his movement off the ball. There was a feeling when he played for Everton that he was a head down and run type player but he has so much more to his game than that.
-
What I like about him is how he picks the ball up and carries it forward through opposition players, he is so difficult to knock off the ball.
-
Anderson should be in the starting eleven for the Villa game.
-
I like how he is developing in to a box to box midfielder, he doesn’t look out of place.
-
Gordon has had a good game so far, Tonali hasn’t.
